Only partially. It's also a mode of contemplation of the humanly irreductible, like individual sensibilities, the very nature of free will, and the so many different and oscillating ways good and evil occur.

Also, religion as a personal experience and religion as as a social agent work differently. They are intertwined because of its identitary aspect, but an old woman's God-fearful faith and a jihadist's extremist faith are very different phenomena experientially.

If it was just a coping mechanism than people would not need it in the long run. However daily faith must be renewed and strengthened. I feel that religion isn't a means to ease suffering it's a means to gain the perspective to see beyond suffering by acknowledging the source of the suffering. It's all a means to reveal the truth of all things.

They need it to cope.... İ havent had religion my whole life... And look at me... All living and happy

Mary Sands 3 years

I'm glad your life has meaning

Angel Schulz 3 years

So why do people put so much into potential that they forget what is?

Mary Sands 3 years

Things like fear and anxiety. The thing is, it's not "potential" it's truth and you accept it and move on with it or become stuck in the same place... Whatever "is" will go on without you or not. It's just about keeping balance in life any human being regardless of any belief they hold can agree with that.

it is a bandaid for a perfectly mendable broken bone

Fuck religion follow humanity and mankind.

There's no purpose in having religion in your life.

Lisarene Sweet
L

Why?

Musa Cody 3 years

Because if you put all your faith in something ficticious, you miss the reality going on around you.

Lisarene Sweet 3 years

And what exactly is reality, according to you?

Musa Cody 3 years

Getting through life day to day. What I go through everyday is different but probably basically the same as you. Interaction with friends and family, meals, hygiene, providing for others... İt's not to different from you. Maybe it is. That's my reality though.

Lisarene Sweet 3 years

So you understand that different experiences might have different meanings for each person, and they might also influence them differently, don't you?

The purpose of religion,
Is to raise money.
From the first time someone said,
"The Sun told me to tell you, I get more than my share, and I don't have to work for it".
Now it's,
"God needs lots of money, because Jets don't fly on prayers".

Nothing's changed, still sheep, living the lie.

Purpose of real religion is to make human being pious and righteous and obedient
If these things achieved by human being than automatically human beings help each other, offer food to needy and charity to needy.

And always refrain from bad deeds and do good deeds.

Human being need self policing for the love of Commander in chief who is seer hearer and listner of all.

David Cervantes

Is this the, 'refrain from bad deeds', Book you're talking about?

I don't know which book you read.

Understanding purpose is very important. In a society punishment to criminals is very important. Animals are made for human beings only and also same book define Women Men and animals rites. What kind of animals to be used for healthy living. http://en.islamway.net/SF/quran

All are based on Egyptian Theology. 'book of the dead' But hey, I'm sure your god is real, and the other 4,199 are fake. I mean, EVERYBODY can't be full of shit.

Gordon Fitch 3 years

O-and, The Holy Quran is a bad copy of the Bible. But I'm sure they got it right. Rape, Slavery, Incest, Murder in the name of god. It's all in there.

Why is it beyond human comprehension to see this for what it is? Are we so desperate for something to believe in or look forward to that we begin to shift blame towards the end days and stop holding ourselves accountable for what we have done to each other and the planet?

Mary Sands
M

Seems like it isn't only religious fundamentalists who like to generalise.

Musa Cody
M

I just find a lot of people blaming God or the devil when in all reality its free will.

Mary Sands
M

Oh, absolutely, good and evil happen because we make them happen. It's just that not many people understand that good and evil aren't perpetually fixed judgements, whether they're religious or not.

Musa Cody
M

So what makes some more susceptible than others?

Mary Sands
M

I'd really like to know that myself. Since it is rooted in the complicated nature of free will itself, a concrete and universally applicable premise it's pretty elusive. We are irremediably emotional beings and we need things to give us certainty, so we adopt anything that allows it without really considering that certainty is given contextually, circumstantially. If the conditions that propiciate any given context (and thus, certainty) change slightly, you might not even notice it, so you wouldn't have any reason to question them. But if they change considerably, hell breaks loose and you either hold onto fixed values, closing yourself from anything that doesn't affirm what you already know; or you begin to reconsider and learn how to deal with things that you didn't know existed.

That's why it's good to know people from different backgrounds, that's why it's good to travel, that's why it's good to read, that's why it's good to eat things you wouldn't usually eat, and so on. You don't have to assimilate everything, but you could at least try and taste from different dishes.

That's what I try to do.

Musa Cody
M

Exactly. I keep an open mind about everything... Common sense is surrounding based. Different thought processess and normality based on different cultures. Nothing is concrete but few. Certain morals i wont compromise.

Mary Sands
M

musa is a beast. That is some fine writing. Sometimes people think if they string together complicated words and terminologies they are being intelligent. Not the case. There needs to be substance behind it to be considered eloquent and intelligent. You epitomized that right there, that's what a lot of posers think they are accomplishing.

I joined this group looking for that kind of writing and that kind of insight.

Matt Dickerson
M

Thank you!

The point is we're always learning things and they affect us differently, even what I previously stated is probably just as circumstancial as anything else could be. Sometimes everything gets done quickly and it all makes sense pretty mechanically, sometimes it's okay just not to jump into conclussions and be patient.

I am blessed to be Muslim.
Islam is God choosen religion.
Islam is not only 7th century religion. Islam became more dominant with Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) self quest for God.
Human being given freewill to choose good and evils way of life but God recommended Good way of life and always like human being who search God by their brain mind and thinking that's why Islam is Ibrahimic religion.
Islam came with Adam (pbuh)..
Since than choosen messanger and prophets (pbuh) given messages to their respective people.
This message is nothing but the way of leading and living life on the earth.

Today what we know because of them.

If we forget them and their message thinking we know everything and no need to remember messanger and message than I think you are over boosting to own self and that will lead to destruction of own self.

The moment you shift from basic self destruction starts gradually .

David Cervantes

and thats fine if you believe that and that helps you sleep at night. Im a realist.

Mary Sands

As salam aleikum wa rahmatullah, David; and Alhamdulillah. But be cautious and understanding, because it is by the very will of Allah that people and societies change over time, and it is by the very will of Allah that every single person can live according to their own choices and sensibilities and face whatever they bring, beneficial or damaging.

We don't know everything, only Allah does. And if you truly believe Allah is omnipotent and omniscient, that He is capable of everything; then you can well contemplate that Allah is perfectly capable of conceiving diversity, and that Allah is perfectly capable of tolerating the susceptibilities of those who don't want to cause harm to others, no matter their time and place of living; beginning with the lesson provided by Him and through our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in ayah 256 of the surah al-Baqara, which establishes that religion must not be compulsory for the fair and compassionate.

We don't live in 7th century Arabia, we can only interpret and procure the best from what we're given at any given time and without hurting others.

Musa Cody
M

Well said I agree... ISLAM Purpose is not to impose on others but to educate others.

If it is peace and harmony how come religion has been responsible for most of the wars? Most of the trouble in the Middle East, Asia and Africa is religious
