What is the best milk to give a one year old baby?

Best milk to give a one year old? I breast fed for a year then started giving him coconut milk from "so delicious" and "silk" but im alittle worried about the ingredients in these products... İve been trying to research this but have not been able to find any useful information yet... Thanks in advance!

My daughter drinks hemp milk

Patricia Welsh

My son drinks 'Tempt' brand, unsweetened original flavor- no carageenan, no other crap, non-GMO. I can't find an organic one that doesn't have the carageenan or brown rice syrup... So that's why I go with the one I listed. Good luck!

Jeanne Sharpe 3 years

Almond is what dr suggested for my one yr old grandson. He loves it. I think u just gotta make sure he gets his fats elsewhere ( healthy fats)

Katt Moseley
K

Avocado is one of the best fats... Thought I'd leave some feedback on that.

SarahLyn Long 3 years

Yes. That's what my grandson gets a lot of lol. Thanks for adding that I went blank

Katt Moseley 3 years

Watch the ingredients in almond milk especially carrageenan

Sheena Webster
S

Yes!!

Katt Moseley 3 years

Sheena Webster I just learned about carrageen. Will it actually say carrageen on the label?

Katt Moseley 3 years

SILK Almondmilk milk original unsweetened has no carrageen. Any flavors have other stuff in them that's not good for you.

Ann Otero 3 years

However, if you can get raw goat milk, that is truly the best.

Ann Otero 3 years

Blue Diamond is good

Teresa Good 3 years

I give mine almond milk, but still mix with similac

Christine Brennan
C

I give mine oberweis milk and breast milk

Katie Kearney
K

So delicious coconut milk make sure there's no carageegans. All brands go back and forth using them and not. But I find so delicious the beat brand. Almond milk and hemp are good too. Also look to ensure no carrengeenes in them.

SarahLyn Long
S

But if you want to get technical... Breast milk is the best milk for the child.... No milk will ever compare.

SarahLyn Long
S

I've been wondering the same thing! I've been giving my 16month old the silk brands too(dairy allergy) but I know its not so great for him but really I cant afford anything else!

Virginia Russo
V

You can make your own almond or coconut milk super easy, and cheaper than what you spend on silk!

Leah Harrington 3 years

Dairy allergy? Have you given him probiotics?

Lourinda Gillis 3 years

I Breast feed and my boy is 11 months just started giving him 2 ounces of homo milk with half breast milk to see if he would drink it and he does like it

Victoria Sexton
V

Breast milk and water. My daughter is 18 months and has never had milk other than mine. My older kids drink So Delish, coconut and almond milks.

Michele Cabrera
M

I'm still breast feeding him too just wanted to see if he would take the homo milk too with breast milk in it

Victoria Sexton
V

No need for that. Cows milk is so bad.. No need to ruin the perfect thing.

Tara Andrade 3 years

Like all other mammals, once they wean they don't need milk of any kind. Give good juice, water, coconut water etc. If you van continue to breastfeed I would do so until 2 yrs.

Trish Sheldon
T

If you can't breastfeed anymore than just feed a whole Organic diet. That's all you need. I will not give my son any milk but my own milk.

Tara Andrade
T

SO Delicious coconut milk does not have carrageenan which is why I purchase this brand.

The down side is he has a growing brain that needs lots of fat. Look at food options to fill that gap like aged cheeses, yogurt, avocado, egg yolks just to name a few. Aged cheese and yogurts are easier for the stomach to digest. My son likes Stoneyfield Yobaby yogurt.

Leila Mckay
L

Seriously? Aged cheese and yogurt? Im not trying to be rude but we can't digest dairy very well, we are not supposed to consume it. Some of us do OK with it but the majority of us have issues directly related to dairy consumption.

Samantha Hendrix 3 years

I definitely agree samantha

Toni Edwards 3 years

Agree

Dory Medeiros 3 years

I personally think that depends on where the dairy is coming from. You can get cheese, butter and other types of dairy products. ONLY if you do raw, organic grass fed

Caren Cameron 3 years

I'm so glad I'm not the only mom that doesn't always match socks!!!!!!!!!

Chrissy Polk

Lmfao xD

Emmie Medrano 3 years

Lol! I didn't even notice! Funny! That's so cute. He's adorable too

Katt Moseley 3 years

I was gonna say the same thing. Out of 100 socks in the house we don't have a matching pair, ever!!

Karolina Call 3 years

I didn't notice either, like a natural thing here. Haha

Sam Rosa 3 years

...fyi- maybe off-topic right now, but if you can still pump breast milk, store/freeze some for any future family issues like ear/eye infections. I just had an illness my 16mo old son picked up from his 1st wk at a daycare center, and my husband ended up with the ear infection, my son with some type of eye infection. Wished I'd have saved some of my liquid gold!!

Jeanne Sharpe

We don't need milk after breast

Samantha Hendrix

Im done breastfeeding im proud to say that we made it 1 year but i no longer wish to continue. He does get yogurt everyday along with healthy fats. The problem i have is he likes to have a bottle before bed... Because i co-slept and breastfed for his entire first year. But now we have been trying to get him to go in his crib but he always wakes up at around 3/4 am and we bring him to our bed but he wants a bottle... Any advice with that?

Emmie Medrano
E

Congrats on making it a year!! My son just weaned a few weeks ago at 13.5 months and i was ready too.. I understand and think a year is great!

Heather Madrid 3 years

Following. My son is 10 mos and this is what I worry about when I start weaning

Lisa Beal 3 years

Bottles do cause tooth decay so please be careful with that. Nothing but breastmilk or water should go in it if you're not going to brush their teeth after it

Courtney Lamb 3 years

You could make your own coconut milk! It's super easy! Coconut flakes and pure water; blender and stainer!!!

Jennifer Bender
J

Really ?

Karolina Call 3 years

Yes! Super easy and delicious! Warm up about 6 cups of water on the stove, not boiling, but hot. Add maybe 2 cups of coconut flakes, let it sit for a minute, then blend for a while. After that strain and enjoy! I let it sit out for a little bit before I put it in the fridge. I always make myself a cup of fresh warm cup of coconut milk with turmeric, cinnamon and honey for a super yummy drink!

Jennifer Bender 3 years

Hi jennifer do you mean desiccated coconut flakes ?

Natacha Wise 3 years

Ummmm maybe? The dried/shaved coconut flakes...

com-qqvnqx48bq2sz8wsr4os.jpg

Jennifer Bender 3 years

I was thinking about this. Where do you find coconut flakes?

Coconut milk and coconut water are wonderful. Coconut water replaces you electrolytes and hydrates you. Young children tend to not drink enough water and this is a great way to get liquids in him without the sugar.

Joyce Rose
J

I used to give my son Pacific brand Hemp milk. No caragageen. At least not in some of their products. I can't do soy and didn't want animal's milk.

Lisa Hobbs
L

I nurse to 2, but if I didn't I'd look into donor milk or toddler formula. There's no milk replacement that has has the fats and nutrients of breastmilk or formula.

Lynn Goddard
L

I've heard goats milk is the closest to human milk.

Camia Mccarty
C

Goats milk is closest to BM that we can get. Also look up Western a price org. Some very interesting info on here about making ur own. Good luck.
Ps we have done the coconut thing too. Sometimes rice milk and almond milk too. Maybe alternating would work for u.

Ally Bowers
A

goats milk, or keep pumping your own and give him that until he is much older

Amber Nava

I would check the GMO verified list on those brands also... İf it doesn't say organic certified and non
GMO verified then there are better options

Amber Nava

Goats milk.

Suzanne Garner
S

As long as you find one that is truly organic, with no carageenan in it, should be okay. Don't need to be sweetened.

Dee Ashby
D

Goats milk is good for his early morning milk. For fats give him avocado and use organic butter or coconut butter on his veggies. Nut/seed butters, such as sunbutter are good and high in fat. Just add one new food at a time over a week to see if he reacts to it.

Trish Fuller
T

Raw unpasturized milk for another year and then off dairy!

Maria Velez
M

We do coconut milk. Also toddler formula as supplementation because my son is not the greatest of eaters.

Ana Tolbert

Trader joes

Jules Hernandez
J

Find farmer who will supply goat milk. And then boil it for 10 min. It is the best. But in USA it is not allowed to sell not pasteurized milk. Any milk from supermarket shelf is not really to my standard.
For me if milk is not going sour on 3rd or 4th days is the bad milk. Did you ever notice that supermarket milk is not going sour, it is becoming gooey, slimy consistency and smells so bad. That kind of milk is not digesting good, it remained more hrs in intestine, gives you a lot of gas - that what is call in USA lactose intolerance.
Good milk is getting sour on 3rd or 4th day in refrigerator and it become like kefir consistency. That is the best milk to drink!!!

Larissa Emery
L

I learnt something new and I'm lactose intolerant

Victoria Sexton 3 years

make your own hemp milk form hemp seeds, but your son does not need to replace milk he dosnt need a replacement nutrients can be got from food

Karen Henry
K

Goats milk is supposed to be closest to breast milk

Maria Bruce
M

Almond milk has alot of wonderful qualities and you want lil dude to have alot of good fats for his growing brain! Im weary of soy cause it had stuff in it that acts as estrogen, in boys thats not a very good thing! Just research everything first you sound like youll make the best decision for your beautiful babes! Good luck

Brittany İbarra

i gave my kids sheeps milk its lovely needs watering down as very rich but its a lovelty milk

Goat milk

Vio Mayes

If he's still breastfeeding, i would just continue with that. No need for other milks. ♡

Dana Benton

I do almond but goats milk I hear is best

Nicole Goldman
N

Carageenan is bad... İt is in several of the alternate milk products

Grace Sykes
G

I am disappointed because of the added carrageenan to what otherwise would be a great product. Boo.

Mollie Ziegler
M

Why do we think we need Milk?
We are the only species that drinks milk if another species beyond infancy. Include good fats and a diet with rich whole foods and superfoods. If he wants a bottle in the middle of the night, give him water in it.

Holly Wall
H

But the equivalent development in other mammals before weaning would mean our human babies should have breastmilk until 2. Lacking that, a formula or milk closely mirroring human milk is best. After toddlerhood, yes milk suuplementation is unnecessary. But at 1 year old solid food and water can't get the fats and nutrients needed into a body.

Lynn Goddard 3 years

None. If you can breasted then only that.
Or if you can get raw goat milk.

Neda Hartley
N

Blue Diamond almond milk is safe & tastes like normal milk. Sweetened tastes more like breastmilk.

Teresa Good
T

We occasionally do raw goat milk. The protein structure is similar to human milk and a goat filters more impurities from their milk than a human does.

Karen Peterson
K

Raw goat milk

My kids love organic almond milk and it has 2 times the calcium as cows milk.

Tabitha Wray

Goats milk. Closest to mothers milk
