I had 30 rounds 1 a day (weekday) for 6 weeks. After about week 3 my esophagus started to hurt, it felt pretty raw. I was given a pain patch but I was intolerant of it. The last few weeks and a few weeks after I could not eat or drink much. I ended up having to go to the hospital daily to get fluids. Once I was done I was given a prescription to help with healing it worked well.
Dont be scared. Listen to the drs take the pain meds. Get some thickener for your fluids. Pudding, boost stuff like that. It will be over before you know it and a fading memory!!
My Tumor is or was less than 1 cm sclc. This is my second time with Cancer. I'm also doing Chemotherapy four rounds. I have one round of Chemotherapy 2/14/18 - 2/16/18.Scans at the end of February.
My mom had 10 treatments to the whole brain. Each treatment was only 10 minutes of the actual radiation. The main side effect she had was fatigue and hair loss.
I'm fairly new to this but so far I've had no pain I drink lots of water to help with throat dryness today I had my second treatment wasn't bad the first one scared me i wasn't expecting the noise from the machine and the lights or the tightens of the mask today was much better I came out gaming instead of crying
I couldn't do the mask, I am claustrophobic..I have to have two xanax ear plugs and eyes covered just for mri... No way they would have to knock me out..
Terry Ervin. So was my husband. They open up a mouth hole for him, and he took 2 Valium. 1 when we left home, and 1 just before we got there. It's a 45minute ride. After his 3 rd treatment he was fine and did not need the meds to do it. The guys making his made the mask easier for him. Is your cancer in 1 spot? And is this just as a precaution?
There is no one answer. Everyone is different. Some people felt a burn and some had burn marks. For me it was a breeze with no problems or side effects and I had radiation every week day for 6 weeks.
I had 30. The treatment itself does not hurt imo. Your rad dr should have given you carafate (coats esphogus), Pepcid & I used honey & aloe vero juice before & after each treatment. You will aquaphor for skin. They will prescribe other stuff when needed. I drove myself. I was tired the whole time. Burped at meals a lot. I asked for pain meds in advance. Around 5th week had to Do room temp food & liquid. I did get esphogus burn but forced myself to eat ensure, soups etc.. post treatment 1.5 was still tired & 1 month post esphogus hurt. Last treatment was dec 5. Just last week I started to feel good again & stopped napping & ate 100% pain free hot & cold. Every one is so different on symptoms & all get them different times. Mine started late. Radiation keeps working in your body 2/3 months post treatment. Scan usually 2 months when inflammation & radiation decrease. Gl oh magic mouth wash too by prescription- I had all at home so when I needed it I had it. Just stopped carafate & Pepcid last week. Oh no spicy foods either. Ps mine mass was right middle lobe. Many side effects depend on where beams are going - ask many questions.
So you took Carafate and Pepcid BEFORE and AFTER each treatment? I only have magic mouthwash for when my esophagus gets sore. ??? What other stuff did they prescribe?
Leanne I feel like your a tool for us to use. Every time I have a question I search your name. Thank you for sharing all your advice & experiences with us. Lots of & big prayers for you
Laurie Atkins no Pepcid was twice daily, carafate was before meals & bedtime. I did honey and Alevera juice for suggestions of the group when I first started before and after every treatment. But again everybody's symptoms are different everybody's good we did overtime and may not react off I am just a prepare for the storm at smooth sailing person.
Radiation for his lung didn't hurt at all. He did get some radiation burn on his back. Not sure how long he had it because he never felt it. I had him show me his back, then I seen it. We put aloe on it.
You don't feel it at the time but as you go on with more sessions you feel soreness and some pains but tell your radiologists they should help you. Most of my issue came at the last few sessions swelling, breathing difficulty, low energy painful mouth. Still on liquids now mouth is still healing but everyone is different. I had 30 days of radiotherapy.
I had 5 Stereotactic Radiation treatments and there was no pain or discomfort, I was fatigued for weeks after but I considered that a small price to pay.
The actual treatment doesn't hurt. The daily ritual of going there wears you down. Most people get fatigued. Some get nauseous. Mine was very intense, so my skin was burned on both sides. Listen to your body, watch for anything out of the norm and report it. Seems like they have something for everything. Good luck, hope all goes well with you.
I was scared to death of it. There was nothing to it. I harmonized to the noise and had my own sound. I should have made a cd. I would bea millionaire.
Radiation was rough for me I had chest and brain everyday for 14 days. Radiation itself i felt nothing. That is when I lost the last of my hair. I learned it was only hair and mine came back after 6 weeks. The hardest was my esophagus got extremely raw only thing that helped me for pain was children’s liquid Tylenol I would drink it every 3-4 hours miracle mouthwash worked but didn’t like the numb feeling. Because if the brain radiation to this day I have equilibrium issues from irritating the Eustachian tubes. It has gotten better with time. I can deal with the little post effects better then the alternative. I did brain and chest as Prophylactic treatment after finishing chemo treatments.

Thank you, I need people who know. I'm so scared.

Sometimes radiation can hurt like me tonight going through I'm in a lot of pain area feels like I'm going to throw up
Feels like I'm running a fever
Oh great. Sorry to hear that. Got my prayers. Tomorrow is the mold and mearsurments.
Every one is different. Ask the Dr about pain management. You will also have fatigue.
There's nothing to be mold you're going through proton radiation also
Radiation was exhausting but not painful-stay strong and you can get thru it!
I had 30 dauys and though it didn't hurt, my throat starts to feel uncomfortable swallowing. It is now getting better.
How big of a spot was it kathy?

My Tumor is in the Left Upper Lung.
I did it for 35 rounds, daily, had no problems
It all depends on where they are radiating you.
Right, mine was on my lungs
Sharon Elder my husband had it on his lungs as well and had severe burns. His collar bone, several layers of skin came off. It all did heal though.
Yes- you could get very fatigued. Also if it is close to the stomach it may cause nausea
My mom had 10 treatments to the whole brain. Each treatment was only 10 minutes of the actual radiation. The main side effect she had was fatigue and hair loss.
It just depends, I had 2 x a day for 15 days.. I was fine. Other than a little bit of a sore throat..
I'm fairly new to this but so far I've had no pain I drink lots of water to help with throat dryness today I had my second treatment wasn't
bad the first one scared me i wasn't expecting the noise from the machine and the lights or the tightens of the mask today was much better I came out gaming instead of crying
Praying that you will be comfortable each time you have treatments..

The mask isn't the problem, it's the bolting the head down to a table.. Oh no
My mom had radiation and she didn't have any side affects and it didn't hurt.

I had 30 days of radiotherapy.
I had 33 & it does not hurt, but after 20 I started to fade. But carried on until the 33rd
I had 5 Stereotactic Radiation treatments and there was no pain or discomfort, I was fatigued for weeks after but I considered that a small price to pay.
Not at all you don't feel nothing going through it atleast I didn't. Isn't until later you feel the affects of it and some are hard.
The actual treatment doesn't hurt. The daily ritual of going there wears you down. Most people get fatigued. Some get nauseous. Mine was very intense, so my skin was burned on both sides. I had 5 rounds to bone and lung-,did not feel anything. Later developed a rush but not too bad.
I had no burns and no reaction from. It
I was scared to death of it. There was nothing to it. I harmonized to the noise and had my own sound. I should have made a cd. I would bea millionaire.
Never put lotion on before, always a couple of hours afterwards.. I felt nothing.. Make sure you keep all of your skin moisturized..

No, I’ve had it 3 times and no pain, or even very bad after effects. The actual procedure is quick and simple. Don’t worry.
You have been a great help, all of you. This is what I needed, from the patients not the doctors. They don't want to scare you.
Anyone have the upper lobe done with radiation?
Upper right side. Praying your treatment went well. Didn't you do your first one today?
I found the time there relaxing, it was like I was there to focus my attention on conquering cancer! It gave me a lot of fatigue but it wasn’t painful
Mine was Stereotactic Radiation on my RLL 5 treatments
What type of radiation are you getting
I’m 44 and I had 28 25 min treatments. Not one side effect besides heartburn and I took nexium for it
