I hope I'm not bothering people by posting too much... I'm just really anxious to know what symptoms they have that prompted them to go and got diagnosis of lung cancer? Do you guys think extreme stress since it really messes up the immune system contribute to cancer? THX!
I had a cough that wouldn't stop and I felt like I had something in my throat and swallowing felt weird.
My dad has the same symptoms and was just diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer on Thursday. It’s in his upper left lobe and also has a mass wrapping around his pulmonary artery.
angela, you just described mine exactly.
My dad hasn’t started treatment yet. He’s scheduled with the oncologist Monday so we’re not sure what to expect. Do you mind telling me what your course of treatment has been so far?
Did your dad have a biopsy done yet? That would be the next step if not. The biopsy can tell them what type and the type, especially what mutation determines the treatment. Or which drug to use for treatment I should say. My large mass is in my upper left lobe but I have to smaller ones in my right lung and some nodes they are concerned with. I started on chemo last summer and the large mass shrank but not a lot. They then starred me on maintenance drugs just to keep it from growing or spreading. I got really sick on those, one was keytruda. My last ct scan the large mass grew some so right now I stopped all treatment and am seeking a second opinion on treatment. Each person is different and each cancer is different. Mine from what I was told is not the typical mutation but one they don't have a regular plan for. I won't be cancer free and they are just trying to prolong my life. Which is OK as long as I have a quality life. I'm feeling pretty good.
Similar to some of the symptoms I felt... Cough everyday with phelgm, shortness of breath, sometimes having a real hard time to exhale
My grandmothers back started hurting then she started coughing up blood
was she coughing for years before coughing blood?
No it was only a few days of coughing, she had the pain in her back/side for about a year. Turned out the pain was were the cancer in her lung was pressing against her ribs. Also she would barely eat in the months leading to her diagnosis
I'm really baffled from reading this forum that the symptoms leads to seeking treatment are very rarely from the discomfort of breathing or the lung... This cancer is so insidious....
It truly is, it's also crazy that even though my Grams cancer has come back in the lung lymph nodes, she feels like she can breath better than she did before.
Swollen lymph nodes at the bottom of my neck.
Very encouraging... Because I just found a lymph node on my neck close to my manible that is painful when I massage or press on it..
Started swollen face as tumour pushing on a vein x
Just had COPD.
My husband had a spontaneous lung hemorrhage. My mom never bled at all. Doc kept treating bronchitis off and on for almost 2 yrs w/o a ct or even a chest xray. When i demanded a ct it had already metastasized to her brain. She lived 14wks from dx. Be an advocate for your own health. Everyone is so different. Get the testing done so you make an informed decision. If your doc isnt ordering extensive testing find one who will!
I know I'm probably completely silly and irrational... But I fit every single one of the symptoms of lung. Cancer on med MD. And gov. Cancer info... I'm planning on what i will. Change my life completely if I only have 6 months to live... Lol
I was at work and quickly got to the point of not being able to do anything due due lack of brething. They sent me home and i went to er and they did a CT scan. That was when the cancer was found.
My dad had rib cage and sturnum pain for 7 months and back pain for two increasing in severity. No breathing issues. Just found out Fri after he went to A&E (he'd been to the GP and hospital a few times during the 7 months but not a single test just muscle rub cream given) in too much pain to cope that's what it was, and that his spine was fractured by it, completely paralysed from the waist down even though he walked into the hospital and had no symptoms of it at that point.
I know extreme stress can cause you all kinds of medical problems both short and long term. I knew I had cancer because I had a cough that developed that had blood in it quite often. I was not a smoker so there was really only one good explanation for it. Ended up referring myself to a pulmonary specialist and here is am several weeks later taking chemo with Stage IIIA cancer. I wish you the best of luck and God Bless you.
Did you ever smoke james?
Thank you James Staton
james . Stay strong!
I never smoked, but I was around a lot of people that did.
My sister never smoked, was never around it. Although when she was young she had rheumatoid arthritis. In spite of a lot of weird illness problems, like C-diff from shaving her legs, she was always healthy. When she was very young she was in a clinical trial and it was reversed. The doctors think this weakened her system. Also she was a DEDICATED art teacher, gave 150% and was always under stress. Once she retired, we think her body just relaxed, her immune system relaxed, and in came the demon. She has not even enjoyed a full year of retirement.
My husband had a persistent dry cough and a runny nose every day.. Then his lung filled with fluid almost overnight. Once they drained it, they ran a CT scan and found it
Shannon Corcoran I had a tickle in my throat cough and didnt think much of it figured it was allergies, didnt even think lungs as there was no mucus. My lower back took my to the dr as I was about to fly out the next day to my dads and I thought a pain pill was in order to make the flight.... So I called the doc went in and said oh btw I also have a cough... After listening to my lungs he said he wanted me to have an xray. It came back pneumonia. Had a cpl of zpacs and another xray. It didnt show as completely gone, so they said get another xray which I did in Jan. Meanwhile I ended up rupturing 2 of the discs in my back which was from me coughing and then the straw that broke this camels back moving a pc of furniture when I was cleaning house - that will teach you cleaning is dangerous to your health. When I had my follow up xray in Jan and saw no change from the end of Oct one I then was sent for a CT scan, I recd that call Martin Luther King birthday weekend, since then Ive had PET scan, breathing test, 2 biopsies on the tumor, echocardiogram, stress test and this Fri they are going to do a 3rd biopsy to see if its spread to the lymph nodes... Which are enlarged and lit up... So we will see a lil over a week to go for me to finally find out Surgery or Chemo tho I do want a brain CT or MRI first just to make sure my addl migraines that Ive been having arent because of spread of cancer. Its been a long road, the best thing you can do for you is get to the dr and not self diagnose, if you think you may have cancer go get an xray
He had a persistent cough and all around just feeling fatigued
I had an CT scan after a colonoscopy due to abdominal pain. The CT scan caught the lower right love of my lung that showed a mass. No symptoms. Just an incidental finding.
I had a minor stomach ache. Thought I had reflux or something. I went to the dr and he thought I had gallstones. He sent me for sonogram. To make a long story short- one test led to another and still another and bam- 3 days later - stage 4 lung cancer. Never a smoker. Always in perfect health! Go figure!
I was feeling sick Nov 15 went to doctor on the 18th diagnosed with phanomia 8 day's later no better went back put me on higher dose of antibiotics and I went to primary doctor she sent me for CT scan and sent me to specialist did biopsy January 19 and was diagnosed with lung cancer stage 4 on January 23...... Thank God I got phanomia otherwise would of never found it. Have done 3 treatment of keytruda and now shrinking and stabel
Many believe stress had something to do with their cancer. I had extreme pain in my shoulder that sent me to the er.
For my dad it was coughing up blood.. But he was misdiagnosed for about 4 months (he had copd and pulmonary fibrosis) they dismissed the blood as part of his other illnesses. It was only when my mum insisted her went to our local A&E, they ran tests and found stage 4 lung cancer. He passed away 8 weeks after this diagnosis.
I had back pain. Knew it wasent macular or joint pain. After several weeks with it getting worse I went to doctor and asked for a xray. Sure enough lessons showed up. After a scan was diagnosed with sclc adenocarcinoma, COPD and EMPHYSEMA.
Here is my story. My husband was feeling really bad one day in January, so I took him to the Dr. Dr. Diagnosed him with pneumonia. He was given a rx for antibiotics and a note for work and sent in his way. A couple of months later, he developed a pleural effusion, because he's a respiratory therapist he knew what it was and so he made an appointment to have it drained. When he went to the hospital to get it drained, for some reason the pulmonologist decided to run some tests on it, to make sure all the bacteria were gone. It was during one of those tests that the pathologist discovered it. His symptoms were hoarseness, a cough that never went away after the pneumonia, chest pain due to sore muscles from coughing fits, pain on the lower left side from the pleural effusion, shortness of breath, unable to take a deep breath. The pleural effusion was a blessing in disguise. His oncologist said that if my husband had not been proactive about getting drained, he would not be among the living much longer, but because he was proactive about his health, his cancer is treatable.
One eyelid started drooping then lack of perspiration on same side of my head and arm went numb.... All on my left side. Pancoast tumor in left upper lobe pressing on nerves coming off the spine.
I always had my right eyelid droop when I got tired, or sick. Since my treatment it doesn't do it any more. I would have never given it a second thought until I read your post a while back. I keep an eye out for it to start doing it again. Now I notice when other people have one droopy eyelid too.
Pam Stallings a local news anchor has one that droops. I want to tell her to get it checked.... Or tell me she has and it's nothing to be concerned about so I will stop worrying about her
You should email her! That guy on the hgtv show flip or flop was diagnosed with cancer in his neck after a viewer contacted him and told him he had a suspicious lump in his neck. He was able to totally recover because of it! You never know...
While closing from work sweeping up I got a sharp pain on my right side I had it a couple of times more went to on call they took exrays and then told to get to the er long story short they found I had lung cancer that was three years ago on Tarceva now and doing good
Long family history. When it got to 2nd generation, my first cousins, I got scared. When the first cousin passed away, Dr. Sent me for screening CT. Showed 3 nodules. Watched 21/2 years before one started growing. URL removed by VATS 2/2017. 4 rounds of chemo. Scans every 3 months. Thanks to all the prayers. Going well
None my cardiologist found mine with a ct
No symptoms for my mom. A routine chest x ray before having her hip replaced discovered stage 3 lung cancer.
No symptoms for me, I got the flu in December which led to pneumonia and was hospitalized. While I was there they took a chest xray for the pneumonia and they found the nodule then.
My husband was so tired and coughing all the time. In June he went to ER and was diagnoised with pneumonia. It never cleared up. Had lots of tests and it was stage 1V lung cancer. He has been doing chemo for 7 months now. It is getting really hard on him. Sick and so tired all the time. Has a PET scan this week, hope he gets good news. He said he needs something else because the chemo is too rough on him.
Prayers to you and your husband ....
Shannon Corcoran Thank you, we know he is terminal, but we were hoping the chemo would help. It hasent.
Sudden severe headache when standing up. Foggy brain.
My blood pressure was 159 over something, I was exhausted, my right arm was useless and I couldn't control my right foot/leg. Knew something was wrong, went to the hospital and diagnosed with lung cancer that metastatisized to my brain. Surprise to me. Had the tumors removed within 3 days and still looking forward keeping the lung cancer quiet.
Girlfriend was tired all of the time & under a great deal of stress. Relief from some of the stress has made her recent diagnosis easier to handle. Stress doesn't help anyone. God bless
I thought (& was being treated for) a sinus and ear infection. I was dizzy and light headed. No other symptoms. I fell over at home and went to ER a few hours later. MRI showed stage 4, mets to brain.
Shortness of breath.
Totally stressed at home for about a year. Then thought I hurt my mid back at work. Treated w an Orthopedic for four months, and pain getting worse and radiating under rt front ribs. MRI found a mass at top of rt lung. Biopsy showed tumor pressing against against nerves causing referred pain... No coughing no shortness of breath ...
My sister had a cough.
