The recommendations on supplements for inflammation of Rheumatoid Arthritis

What is your favorite supplement for inflammation? I’m about to end my prednisone taper (have had to do two in under a month because swelling is so severe) but haven’t been approved for Cimzia yet and I’m trying to avoid NSAIDs. I’m on the AIP but haven’t seen noticeable results yet. I will definitely need something to bridge the gap—I have four young children and work FT so have to be pretty functional. I’m trying many things but would like to know what you get your best response from related to swelling. Thanks!

CBD oil is what I use for pain and inflammation. I used to use boswellia and turmeric. They help, too.

I have some tincture but didn’t notice anything the one time I tried it. What type/format is yours?

CBD, that is

I buy mine from Bluebird Botanicals. It works best when it builds up in your system.

Caprice Meier, thank you. I am breastfeeding so I’m trying to be cautious but this is great to know.

I am currently trying 1000mg if tumeric twice a day. Make sure it has black pepper in it to help absorption. I can’t say it has helped a lot. Been on it one month. I will give it another month. Currently on plaquenil, methotrexate injections, meloxicam. Was on enbrel and humira but had severe skin reactions so had to stop those. Insurance wouldn’t approve Xeljanz but that’s ok because the one month sample I took elevated my liver enzymes. Not sure what we will try next. Have appt in two weeks.

I asked for something for pain before weaning off of prednisone. Rx for Tramadol was given to me. It helps a little on really bad nights. I also do AIP, take turmeric, and CBD oil from Charoletts Web (legal in all 50 states).

I will be taking to my Rheumotologist about pain and continued lack of mobility. Just going to the grocery store wipes me out.

I do have tramadol but want to avoid it because of caring for my kids. I’m mostly trying to control the swelling.

Monika Maynard 3 years

Yeah, I only take it at night. I try not to take it also, but on nights that the pain it too much that I cannot sleep, I take it. For me, the swelling and inflammation has returned once I was weaned off.

Penny Pena 3 years

Penny Pena, yes, that’s my fear. It’s always good to have a pain med option.

Monika Maynard 3 years

I just push through during the day because my children need me.

The reason I quit taking turmeric was because I am severely anemic and turmeric chelates iron. Just something to keep in mind.

I take it and love it but this is good to know!

Ashley Peters 3 years

I loved it, too. But when I had a blood test that revealed my ferritin was only 4, I realized turmeric might be contributing to the problem.

Caprice Meier thanks, very goid to know.

This is my second taper. The first started at 60 mg and went down by 10 mg for 6 days. The second started at 40 mg for 4 days, then 30 for three and so on. I have three 10 mg tabs left.

Dawn Carrier 3 years

Dawn Carrier, it was prescribed by my rheumatologist. No monitoring per se, but we will see how I do once I run out.

Tumeric, vitaminD, probiotics. Heal you’re gut!

Already on these, thanks!

What I found with typical vitamins and supplements is they are synthetic and only a fraction of them are absorbed in the body. They did nothing for me. Look for a whole food supplement that actually carries a food label on it. That way it's 100% absorbed and used by the body to heal. Health starts in the gut!

Are you gluten free? That helped my swelling more than anything else. It took me 2 weeks before I saw results.

Yes, on AIP.
