My son-in-law is on day 4 of a crippling headache. He doesn't normally get them. Temple to temple and base of the neck. He has taken ibuprofen and Tylenol (not my suggestion) I have given him turmeric, probiotics. Any suggestions?
Anne Hatch peppermint might help him! Mix it with a carrier oil and rub some on the back of his neck and some on his temples as long as he doesn’t mind the smell. I know sometimes people get nauseas when they have bad headaches and any smell might get to them.
Anne I'm suggesting getting a diagnosis, not accepting treatment, if he goes and they don't know either, then at least it was checked out. I personally know 2 different situations where long lasting headaches weren't checked out and it didn't end well.
i suffer from migraines and a ton of other ailments and don't use western medicine for much of anything but again, red flag for me is male, 4 day headache, no response to pain meds. I even thought about keeping quiet but again, bc I know of 2 similar situations, took the chance.
And..... İt's a "tension" headache. Prescription in hand... Headed home! Thank you wonderful, natural friends! Will be giving these a whirl when he arrives home.
I suffer from these occasionally. I recently found a tea by Celestial Seasonings called Tension Tamer. I make it and sprinkle turmeric in. It does the trick every time.
If he has a stiff neck in addition to the headache (especially if he doesn't normally get them), he needs to get checked out. It's a big sign of meningitis.
Brain is 80% water. Number one cause for all brain issues is dehydration and lack of electrical signaling between the cells and neurons. If you really care about him, invest in his health. Get Kangen water machine and start giving him Kangen water to drink. For years I was suffering from symptoms of brain injury. Its all stopped 3 years ago when I got a machine. I got my health back for free
Ice on the spot and at the base of the neck. I like to use Biofreeze or other natural sports cream on the spot. Arnica Montana, about 600c, depending on weight. Steam is its weather related. Drink half your weight in water to hydrate.
My naturopath told me 90% of headaches are due to dehydration. Have him drink a gallon of water per day for the next few days and see if he's in that 90%
It isn't natural really but an ER doc told me before a trip in take 50mg of benadryl. Then go to bed. When you have a severe migraine you have increased histamines in your blood stream. Japanese mint oil on the neck and shoulders.
My son in-law had a similar scenario and after day 3 he went to the ER and it was discovered he had a brain tumor. I'm not trying to scare you, just pass on it could be something serious. Good luck, it hope he gets relief.
Symptoms of anything else? Stiff neck or symptoms of meningitis? Seeing spots of light or visual disturbances? I agree with Jayne Beatty, that if it remains severe or does not go away on its own, even with no other symptoms, it would probably be good to get checked to eliminate serious issues, such as brain tumors. I've had three acquaintances who have had severe headaches that turned out to be brain tumors. It's better to know what you are dealing with. That said, things to try now: Heat/cold, whichever he prefers. I find scalp massage with aroma touch & frankincense essential oils to be helpful when I have persistent headaches. I get headaches that sometimes last for days (not tumors- migraines), no fun. I cannot think of anything else that I've tried that has been at all helpful, unfortunately, for me.
Do you have any thieves essential oil, or any essential oils by chance?
I have a few. More of the food oils, dill, fennel, thyme. Peppermint.
I do have panaway as well. He's got a very weak stomach.

Icepack on the back of the neck. Is his blood pressure OK? Magnesium.
Alkaline water needed. Kangen or if bottles Arrowhead, it's at least not acid like most bottled and tap water. Could be dehydrated. It's Spring water.
Essentia water is good too.

You have to find out the cause so you can treat that. If he's taking any medications, look to see what the long term side effects are.
Hospital get test he doesn't normally get them somethings wrong. Could be his neck.... Don't give too much Tylenol he can have an upper GI bleed.
