Natural remedies for frequent urinary track infections

PLEASE HELP!!! I have been getting frequent urinary track infections for a few months now. I try to go the natural route and drink tons of water, take cranberry, probiotics, and apple cider vinegar and nothing seems to help. They get to the point where I start peeing out straight blood and then I always end up having to take anabiotic's from the doctor. Which I hate doing cause I already have candida! I have another uti right now and the pain is unbearable when urinating and it's keeping me up ALL NIGHT LONG peeing. Is there anything else I can try?

Have you tried D-mannose yet?

According to the Balch book..

Have you soaked in an epsom salt bath? That helped my last one a lot. I also put a few drops of lavender essential oil in it also. That and mega doses of D-Mannose (main ingredient in cranberries) knocked mine out in about a week.

Jennie Whitman
J

No I went to the health good store today to get and try the D-mannose and of course they were closed
I'm drinking tons of cranberry juice though. I just can't seem to ever get rid of them myself and they always get so bad that I need an antibiotic

Sex can make them worse

Try boosting your immune system. My naturopath advised me to do this to boost my immune system.
All daily.
-zinc citrate 50
mg
-vitamin A 10,000 IU
-selenium 500 mcg
-vitamin C 3000mg/day
-probiotics 60 billion organisms/day
Take all these for one week.

I also take vitamin d3 as well.

I would most definitely add garlic and silver water too.

In addition to above, Some other things to help. Don't wear panty liners or gstring. Panty liners don't allow you to breathe due to the plastic tape and thus can result in infections. G-strings can allow the bacteria from the back to travel to the front. Especially if you are sensitive. Wash yourself straight after sex. Try changing your washing powder. Wear cotton underwear. Cut out all foods with yeast and fungi until your are cleansed. Increase foods with inulin.

Laura Crews

How about adding probiotic, fermented products li, e yogurt, kefir.

Electra Le

Thank you all so much for your help! I just ordered both of these. I will let you know how they work!

I've used organic Greek yogurt, plain. I speared it all over "down there" and slept over night with it on. But that was for a yeast infection, I wonder if it would help for UTI? I've also heard D-Mannose was the best choice.

Chelsea Correa 3 years

Does anyone know of the azo stuff is bad for you? My husband just ran out to grab me some so I can at least get some sleep tonight and the mannose cranberry and D mannose won't be here till Thursday and I need some relief!!!

For a day or two. U need rest most. Less anxiety w pain. Dmannose is effective but can increase issue w candida and sibo long term. I have been on this journey and I am so sorry u r suffering. It such a trapped helpless place. Friend me and I'm happy to share my journey w you about how we got to the cause of recurring infections.

Alka-Seltzer, stops the pain. Any chance you get it from kidney stones? Try lots of not from concentrate Apple juice.

Melinda Ward

melinda I'm starting to wonder myself if it's kidney stones and they are just saying uti's? Can they tell the difference with my urine sample? The azo is helping me get through the pain when I urinate but now I'm sooo nauseous and just threw up. I made a doctors appointment for tomorrow just to be safe but I already know they will test my urine say uti and I'll go back on antibiotics

My mom mixes golden seal powder and honey together and freezes it. She wraps it in siran wrap. Then once it's frozen she cuts off pieces smaller than the size of a tampon and shoves it up her. Works for her every time. It fights off the infection and beings that it's frozen and cold it soothes it so it doesn't hurt.

I used cream of tartar from our whole foods store and stopped drinking anything but water. I also upped my water intake. If you weigh 140 drink 80oz of water a day to make sure you are flushing your kidneys and bladder completely.

Idk how much help this is but I know my mom used to suffer from them really bad like put her in the hospital and for awhile she had to drink a glass of wine every night (doctor said the alcohol would help) and she was able to stop after a time and now doesn't get them

Oil of oregano. Therapeutic grade, super strong anti viral, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, etc. I make my own capsules, but u could find them pre-made in health food store. Take one 3x/day. Shd feel work after first pill. Shd be gone in cpl days. Won't kill good bacteria only bad. Continue drinking lots while taking. Can take with food too doesn't matter with or without.

go to a urologist and have them do the testing for Interstitial Cystitis (which by the way is not a bacterial infection) or a more serious kidney disease. Frequent reoccurring UTIs and blood in urine can be symptoms of something else, and needs to be properly diagnosed before trying to treat it, whether naturally or with prescription medications. This also holds true of the candida, as you may have something else and not candida and treating the candida is not working because it is a more serious issue or just a "different" issue. If you are finding that drinking cranberry juice, or the apple cider vinegar, actually makes the pain when peeing worse, you might have the Interstitial Cystitis. This is a condition where acids have begun to erode the bladder lining, and is irritated or made worse by eating spicy food, caffeinated foods/drinks, acidic foods such as coffee and cranberry/orange/tomato/grape juices, apple cider vinegar. Try a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in a 4 ounce glass of luke warm water, and drink it down. If this soothes your pain in your bladder and upon peeing, it is an indication that you have IC. But there are other more serious problems, like kidney inflammation, kidney stones, kidney/bladder cancer, that really need to be checked for. Do not use any douches or clean your bottom with anything other than a mild soap bar, like dove for sensitive skin (or a natural brand like Dr bronners unscented for baby bar soap), do not use liquid body washes, as they all have ingredients that can be irritating. A UTI is a bacterial infection, which is why antibiotics are prescribed. It is most often caused by bacterial contamination from the bacteria that live in the colon, E-coli is a popular one but there are others. This means contamination from improper wiping when going to the bathroom, wiping from the back to the front, or if you have a pad in your panties for incontinence or menstrual bleeding, not changing it frequently enough and the bacteria from the anus is contaminating and migrating to the urethra. It can be from wearing non breathable underwear, and not wiping properly (front to back) or thoroughly enough after a bowel movement. Bacteria (and candida) like warm and moist breeding areas, so if you are not wearing all cotton underwear, and are wearing nylon/polyester/other synthetic fabrics that don't "breathe", you are setting the area up for bacterial growth and infection. Wearing underwear that is dark colored is also a no-no, as the dyes in the fabric can irritate the area and cause infection. The urinary tract can be irritated by perfumes, dyes, laundry soap, dryer sheets, fabric softener, body wash, so take a look at how perfumed your daily routine of laundry, hygiene, actually is. At one time in my life I had frequent urinary infections with burning pee, and I was having a response to propylene glycol as a preservative in many different things in my daily routine. I was putting 17 different things on or into my body in a day, and was having this problem. It took replacing all 17 of the products with propylene glycol free natural products before the problem resolved itself, and now I can take exposure to about a max of 2 propylene glycol containing products for no longer than a week before I get the symptoms back. FYI: Propylene glycol is antifreeze. It is used as a preservative (in just about everything-medications, poor quality supplements, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, lotion, makeup, deoderant, body wash, salad dressings, boxed snack foods, much more, it is like high fructose corn syrup as it is in EVERYTHING and you really need to read labels carefully to check if it is in the product) because it has the GRAS status and is considered "safe", as the industries that use it believe that a product has so much less than whatever the safety "maximum" is set for that product, and that a person does not store it up. If you look into the natural health references on it, the natural health community believes that propylene glycol like any other foreign substance gets processed by the liver and when the liver does not know what to do with a foreign substance, it stockpiles that substance in locations in the body until the quantity is large enough for it to start causing you other problems, like UTIs.

I'm going to ask the doctor tomorrow about referring me to a urologist cause I can't take these anymore!

D mannose is excellent for this.

Before every body jumps attacking me for saying:
Did your doctor request more detailed blood work ?
Some illnesses may cause uri as an outcome of their influencing your immune system. Ask the doc. When you know it's only your uri coming back for no reason, do natural remedies. Until then, try to make sure doc rules out others problems that can cause the uri.

Elizabeth Rossi

No they never have, but I have an apt tomorrow and I'm going to ask about it because it's not normal to keep getting them so often

It doesn't burn when I pee it's pain and when I say pain I mean PAIN! Lol I had a natural birth and tore from one hole to the other and the pain when I urinate is almost equivalent to that

Kelly Greene
K

Honestly w the blood and all, I think you need to go in just in case it's spread to the kidneys. Better safe than sorry!

Erika May 3 years

A friend of mine had something similar. Doctors sent her home and she had a stroke. It can be fatal if not diagnosed and treated. Demand attention

Laura Crews 3 years

kidney stones would more likely cause the pain, rather than the burning. İt can feel like you are being gutted with a hunting knife. Your regular doctor may be able to do an ultrasound to see if there are kidney stones but may have to refer you to specialist if that is not what is going on.

Kelly Fletcher 3 years

Uva Ursi tincture has the highest efficacy rate aside from antibiotics for treating UTIs

Synda Ortiz

Sounds like you need a urologist stat! Peeing blood means the uti is backing up into your ureters thus effecting the kidneys. Prayers for you, dear. My mother had the same issue and she soaks in baking soda, epsom and betonite baths nightly.

Ashley Mccray

Are they culturing the urine to make sure the antibiotics your on is the correct ones for the bacteria??

Rebecca Reyna

could be stones, or a tumor somewhere. My mother in law had constant infections and then they found bladder cancer. Surgery removed it early and she's fine. I think you need to go find the source and make sure everything is checked out. Best of luck to you in your return to good health

Linda Marin

Thank you everyone! I have an appointment tomorrow morning with my doctor and will demand she do something other then just put me on another antibiotic! Obviously there's something else going on that I keep getting them! Praying it's nothing serious

Kelly Greene

Every time I go in they take a urine sample and say there's bacteria and blood in it but they say it's just a uti and put me back on antibiotics

UPDATE- doctor did a urine test and there was a lot of white blood cells and blood in the urine. I'm on a 7 day antibiotic. After that she wants to re test my urine and get blood work done to figure out why I keep getting them. I got the D mannose today, is it ok to take it while I'm on the antibiotics?
