My mom thinks she has fractured her spine again for sure. She's had two surgeries already for spinal fractures. She just started exercising a couple months ago. She's in so much pain and can't do much. Ibuprofen helps. Is there any hope? It's so frustrating for her. She thinks she will need another surgery.
Is she taking any supplements? I'm so sorry she's in so much pain.
She just started raw calcium with growth factor from vitamin shoppe and she was taking calcium and vitamin d and a multi vitamin before. Not the best diet either.
It's hard to change our eating habits. Hope she feels better.
Order this supplement. It deals with pain and increases bone density. You can order it on Amazon: Ostinol 450mg
That's way too expensive and it doesn't say if you can return it or not. Lots of bad reviews there too. Is there anything similar at vitamin shoppe?
She has to be careful what she takes, she has cirrhosis of the liver.
That's very hard for you to be seeing your mum in so much pain. Fortunately, she has a caring daughter like you to help her on this tough road. Best wishes.
My mom just had her 4th kyphoplasty in as many years. The surgery has gotten more refined and now she goes home the same day. She's 83. If she broke another one, I'd get her into surgery asap because the reduction in pain is immediate for her. For someone with pre-existing liver issues, painkillers are doing more harm than good for her liver.
She is 59 and has been told that her bones are like an 80-year-old. She is thinking about trying turmeric but not sure which one is good.
Turmeric is good as an anti inflammatory but has no properties for bond health. If you take it make sure your take black pepper with it. Best made into a tea or used in cooking not taken as a supplement
Cyndi Mayberry Is taking the supplement better than none at all? Do any of the supplements have black pepper in them already or you always have to get that separate?
Depends on wht you're wanting to take the turmeric? In order for a supplement to be beneficial 1st you need go be taking it because it has properties that are going to be beneficial for you. 2nd supplements have to be taken at the right time in the right way example turmeric with black pepper or your body won't absorb it .
Cyndi Mayberry my mom was thinking about taking for inflammation.
Curious what she was diagnosed with - why are her bones so bad. Someone with this level of severe OP - there is a reason. The comparison to an 80 year old is old school. I know plenty of 80 year olds with great bones. Also, there are differing views regarding vertebralplasty as the substance is harder than adjacent bones and for some adds risks to further fractures. They have improved with their procedures, but still Kyphoplasty may be a better choice as it utilizes an inflatable balloon to create a cavity for the cement with the additional potential goals of restoring height and reducing kyphosis.
They never told her why they were so bad. Many years ago they would just say oh your bones look bad and no doctors even recommended a bone scan for the longest. She was on depovera in her late 30s and they didn't tell her to take calcium. She went into very early menopause. Used to smoke until a year ago. Had hep c and recently got cured of that. They seem to have no concern about the cause they just push medicine and calcium and she drank lots of milk but recently decreasing dairy.
Well, there are many reasons you mention and still may be other factors. That said, medications should be on the short list - her case needs to be fully assessed if she is maintain an independent lifestyle and multiple fractures of spine does not bode well. Yes, do nutrition, but that will not cut it, period.
Turmeric is fantastic however, it is also a blood thinner. I have patients on meds that cannot take turmeric or someone with low clotting factors such as low platlets.
Is it bad for someone with an aneurysm?
Talk with your doctor - I do not know your case
Everyone talks about diet I wonder which really is the best. I have been on a Whole Foods vegan diet. Whole Foods is different than just vegan as it is very nutrient dense and plant base fats.
She did forteo 18 months and never got a scan yet but it obviously didn't work.
Can't she get a scan anyways?
Does she have pain med like Norco or Percocet? They help -that's what I take. I've have fracture after fracture over last 4 mo. Oft times after PT exercises! Sorry your mom is suffering. Dr said no surgery for me-least not yet.
