Is Jesus God? Did Jesus ever claim to be God?

The Bible never records Jesus saying the precise words, “I am God.” That does not mean, however, that He did not proclaim that He is God. Take for example Jesus’ words in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.” We need only to look at the Jews’ reaction to His statement to know He was claiming to be God. They tried to stone Him for this very reason: “You, a mere man, claim to be God” (John 10:33). The Jews understood exactly what Jesus was claiming—deity. When Jesus declared, “I and the Father are one,” He was saying that He and the Father are of one nature and essence. John 8:58 is another example. Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth … before Abraham was born, I am!” Jews who heard this statement responded by taking up stones to kill Him for blasphemy, as the Mosaic Law commanded (Leviticus 24:16).
John reiterates the concept of Jesus’ deity: “The Word [Jesus] was God” and “the Word became flesh” (John 1:1, 14). These verses clearly indicate that Jesus is God in the flesh. Acts 20:28 tells us, “Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.” Who bought the church with His own blood? Jesus Christ. And this same verse declares that God purchased His church with His own blood. Therefore, Jesus is God!
Thomas the disciple declared concerning Jesus, “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28). Jesus does not correct him. Titus 2:13 encourages us to wait for the coming of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ (see also 2 Peter 1:1). In Hebrews 1:8, the Father declares of Jesus, “But about the Son he says, ‘Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.’” The Father refers to Jesus as “O God,” indicating that Jesus is indeed God.
In Revelation, an angel instructed the apostle John to only worship God (Revelation 19:10). Several times in Scripture Jesus receives worship (Matthew 2:11; 14:33; 28:9, 17; Luke 24:52; John 9:38). He never rebukes people for worshiping Him. If Jesus were not God, He would have told people to not worship Him, just as the angel in Revelation did. There are many other passages of Scripture that argue for Jesus’ deity.
The most important reason that Jesus has to be God is that, if He is not God, His death would not have been sufficient to pay the penalty for the sins of the world (1 John 2:2). A created being, which Jesus would be if He were not God, could not pay the infinite penalty required for sin against an infinite God. Only God could pay such an infinite penalty. Only God could take on the sins of the world (2 Corinthians 5:21), die, and be resurrected, proving His victory over sin and death.

Show me something from the Old Testament referring to Jesus

David Mead

Where does the Old Testament predict the coming of Jesus Christ? There are many Old Testament prophecies about Jesus Christ. Some interpreters place the number of Messianic prophecies in the hundreds. The following are those that are considered the clearest and most important. Regarding Jesus' birth"Isaiah 7:14: "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel." Isaiah 9:6: "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Micah 5:2: "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." Concerning Jesus' ministry and death"Zechariah 9:9: "Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey." Psalm 22:16-18: "Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing." Likely the clearest prophecy about Jesus is the entire 53rd chapter of Isaiah. Isaiah 53:3-7 is especially unmistakable: "He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth." The "seventy sevens" prophecy in Daniel chapter 9 predicted the precise date that Jesus, the Messiah, would be "cut off." Isaiah 50:6 accurately describes the beating that Jesus endured. Zechariah 12:10 predicts the "piercing" of the Messiah, which occurred after Jesus died on the cross. Many more examples could be provided, but these will suffice. The Old Testament most definitely prophesies the coming of Jesus as the Messiah.

Did you read the rest of Isaiah? Your assumptions don't fit ... Many of the verses used are past tense ... You do realize King david was speaking of himself? It could be argued that david will be the Messiah !

Jeremiah 30:9 KJV [9] But they shall serve the Lord their God, and david their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Phil 2:6.. He came to this world as a messiah and God's prophet.. He was is and always will be God.. You cannot take few verses and say he is just human.. He came into the world as a human to solve the human problem called sin.. And he is now in the right hand of God the Father as God.

Amen Thanks you Jesus Hallelujah

((Luke 23:34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments)) Take this verses into consideration while asking yourself, "Why would he mention the word Father in his prayer, if he isG. O.D?

Pharisees crucified Jesus because Jesus climes to be God.. Mark 14 “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” 62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 63 The high priest tore his clothes. “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64 “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?” They all condemned him as worthy of death. Another occasion .. John 10 33 They replied, "We're stoning you not for any good work, but for blasphemy! You, a mere man, claim to be God." They tried to stone Jesus for claiming deity.. Moreover what happened to Jesus was pre ordained so Jesus was merciful on those people and pleaded forgiveness which was bought in calvary ..

The Messiah will bring peace! Micah 4:3 KJV [3] And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: Nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. Jesus said: Matthew 10:34 KJV [34] Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Jesus was just the servant of God if it's the argument that he was born without the male intervention then Adam was born without mother and father. And it is about the common sense that if Allah can create this universe then creation of Jesus without male intervention is not a big deal.

Abubakar Carter

But, why that big deal appeared through jesus?

Jeyaraj Cain 3 years

To show the miracle by Allah

Abubakar Carter 3 years

That it is only one God who create All the universe and it is very easy for Him to create man without male intervention and without nothing in case of adam

It could be argued that God created Isaac without the help of Abraham too ...
This doesn't make any of them the Messiah, though!

What is the meaning of Messiah if you know?

You say "Holy Quran is the only way of life." No wonder so many people who follow this dictatorial, Nazi philosophy do not hesitate to end the lives of people who do not live by the rules of their cult. If the only life is through the Quran, what is the rest of us doing? Are we walking dead?

If you read the Quran without prejudice then you will find the right way which leads to eternal success.

Abubakar Carter
A

You talk of "eternal success." Have you ever met anybody or thing that is "eternal?" Everything you know and see dies. You are going to die too. You cannot build up eternal insurance by begging for mercy from a monstrous creature you were taught to fear when you were a child. A child believes its parents and elders this is an evolutionary survival tool. You will believe in Santa, green bunny rabbits on Pluto and tales about a devouring monster who will torture you forever if you do not obey the rules of your tribe. Why would a petrified child with a brain not yet developed for rational thinking and the discernment necessary to decide between sense and nonsense; lies and truth not believe? It is a wickedness to do this to children. Consider that paedophiles target this same age group because they are predators and predators will pick the most vulnerable; just like hunting animals of all types do. They also use the same methods as religion: Threats of unimaginably horrific punishment or death if their victims don't do exactly what is required them. It is no great wonder that religious organisations and paedophilia are so intimately entwined.

If I read the quron then I'll successfully become terrorist.. I'm not trying to offend you, please listen.. Muslims are problematic everywhere.. India they kill people because they are hindus, Europe Amarica, Australia they kill because they are Christians.. They kill Israelites because they are jews.. Sir.. İ gave you many reference and prophesies about Jesus Christ from the Old Testament as you've asked.. May be you need to go through again.. İ pray that you may come into the light..

Jim Hope 3 years

Half of the references you used were not prophecy; they were event that had already taken place shown by the use of past tense wording! Other references were from events that took place immediately after ... The prophecies of the Messiah that will bring peace have obviously not been fulfilled. The coming Messiah was never a two part mission. I learned to read with the Bible! I have read it many times... I pray you will set aside the opinions of your pastor and read the Old Testament with an unadulterated mind !

I am a man of rational and sound mind. Belief is, for me, not a viable option when it comes to evaluating life, thought and existence. I am in constant wonder and awe with the world as I go along in it and do not need any other kind of mystical input

Jesus is a racist: Mark 7:24-30King James Version (KJV)

24 And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: But he could not be hid.

25 For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:

26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

27 But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: For it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.

28 And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: Yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.

29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.

30 And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

Datta Swami No need to decipher it for me. I spent five years in a seminary and number theologians among my close friends. Thank you though

Jesus spent his time on earth as a Jewish man in first century Palestine who would have been taught to give thanks in his daily prayers for being born a Jew rather than a Gentile, and a man instead of a woman. As immersed as he was in that culture, Jesus could not have avoided the effects of sexist, racist narratives which had shaped his identity from childhood. Inequality was so subtly ingrained in the people and structures around him that it could be completely taken for granted, at least by those whose lives were never adversely affected by it—kind of like racism in 21st century America.

Donovan Huffman 3 years

He wasn't a racist. He never claimed any race superior! If anything, he was helping an inferior people. He was sent to find the lost sheep of the house of Israel! This woman wasn't part of his mission but he helped her anyway ... People only gain an edge on life through their trust in God, despite their racial origin!

You stare in my face and lie for your god because maybe you think I am one of the foolish ones. You are practicing Taqiyya. All believers have to lie because they have to sell their imaginary and unnecessary demons in a market saturated with these wretched creatures - gods and demigods; ghouls and phantoms. You cannot preach to me. The religious these days are just the modern day incarnation of death cults and child sacrificers. You can be respectful enough to engage with me in a rational and intellectual conversation but any form of proselytisation is futile. I am not one to be swayed by subterfuge and philosophical guerilla tactics

Donovan Huffman 3 years

The Bible - not the Quran - is the blueprint for ISIS and all the rest of the evil organisations - Christian, Jewish or Muslim. You look at all the genocide, child rape and slavery practiced by "God's chosen people," and try to tell me that your god is not a racist. If you squeeze the Old Testament hard enough, blood will flow from it. ISIS = God's chosen people. Radical Jews = God's chosen people. Fundamental Christians = God's chosen people. And, oh, don't forget that the so-called "moderates" are reading from the same vile, hate-filled and pernicious scripts
