Which drug(s)?
Alimta and Sisplatin
I had cisplatin with etopicide while also having radiation. From day one through all the chemo which lasted about 5 weeks and the radiation which went on for like 29 week days, I had virtually no side effects. I couldn't stand the smell of gas, (I had trouble swallowing probably from radiation) and I was exhausted. I wouldn't mind having them 24/7 if meant I would be free from any chance of recurrence!! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you continue to have very little reaction, but with excellent results!!
Wow, that's so enlightening to hear. Bless your heart for going through sooo many treatments being practically unscathed. Love hearing this. Very uplifting!
Mary you had the same treatment as me ,, can I ask was the treatment successful?
6 years NED (No Evidence of Disease) so that would be a resounding Hell Yes, thank God & hug every one who prayed, even if only once! I hope that you have even better results! I know it's a stretch, but heck, look at me! Hehe
It can be cumulative so the first treatment is usually the easiest. Hopefully you stay on an easy trend. Blessings.
Thank youuu!
Yes, unfortunately, symptoms tend to begin at around 2-4 treatments, but hopefully they will be so subtle you won't even notice! Prayers for you as you continue forward in your journey! ????
Well stay positive, I had very minimal side effects, dit those in pretty heavy doses first 2 years, then every 3 weeks 2 years now on opdivo. I really had very light side effects so stay positive, every body is different, but you could be like me without much!!!!!
Love hearing that! Many blessings.. Thank youuu!
I had no real symptoms until I was down to the last round of three infusions. I too said, are you sure I have cancer? I just didn't feel ill.
I did good with my first 2, after that as the drugs kept building in my system things changed. Some don’t have side effects. Enjoy this time.
I'll keep that in mind. I'm not feeling invincible just yet lol
Mine usually start day 3 or 4. Make sure to take your anti nausea meds!
I most certainly have! Just to prevent it
I am only getting treatment every 3 weeks from now until Jan. Then I begin a clinical research study
Don't forget to stay hydrated, eat what you can and rest when you need to.
It may take a little while for something to happen depending upon which drugs that you’re on but I would recommend you get your doctor to give you a prescription for nausea and take one every morning when you wake up no matter whether you’re getting treatment or not I’ve had 76 Chemos and the nausea medication definitely helps hopefully yours will not be very serious
I've been taking them just to prevent nausea just in case. I really think the folic acid and steroids have helped immensely!
I take 1mg of Lorazapan (Atavan) everynight before bed. It helps to relax and has antiemetic properties. I haven't need my prescriibed nausia meds. We all react differently. The chemo I'm on now for maintanence is nothing compared to the heavy duty double chemos I had last year... I'm getting Alimta and this time I get steroids and folic acid too....
My dad got through his with no side effects other than some mild tingling in his hands and feet which a prescription for pyridoxine resolved. He did take the anti nausea meds anyway, so I can't say whether he would have had nausea had he not taken them, but as others have said it's probably a good idea to take them. Our dr told us every week 'this is the week things will probably get hard', but it never happened. Luck of the draw I guess, we certainly felt blessed. I hope that you continue to feel so well throughout your treatment, and that it is a fabulous success. Xx
I had the worst side effects during/after my first chemo cycle. Every person responds differently. Cherish every good day you have! Keep it up!
Prayers for you, dear. Thank you!
..following..
My mom did her first treatment with the same drugs on Monday. And she has had minimal side effects, fatigue, muscle soreness, and little upset stomach but more like indigestion not vomiting.
And she has taken no nausea meds
Good for her!! Not too bad! Prayers!
I had none through the 7 weeks of daily radiation with weekly chemo but then I think was very blessed. Each person’s system handles treatments differently. I had multiple issues when I started the target therapy pill which is SUPPOSED to be gentler on your system. Go figure!!
i never had any side affect's either my weight at checking in was 209lbs. After my first treatment was 5 hour's and i left at 216lbs after the chemo and other fluid's.
I did feel like I had eaten a cow lol
i hear ya gina.
have them get you zofran.. Work's great on heartburn.
I had very little side effects to chemo but now that radiation has been added I am having major heartburn!!
I found Radiation was harder than chemo too, especially the exhaustion, which did improve once I finished. I also took Prilosec and an RX called "Magic Mouthwash" ! Good Luck!!
I was nauseous as hell.
It is for some
Yes, I just finished me 4 round chemo and doing find
I did 36 Rad and 7 Chemo, no problem until last Chemo
After Chemo 7 I started down hill my # were already down and went lower, ended up in hospital for 3.5 days with bad infection from Chemo, got a big bag of potassium which is not fun it burned going in for over 2 hrs, Red & White could LOW and BS over 260 so after 73 years I’m now also diabetic. I tried too hard to do everything right, should have missed a treatment and made it up when numbers were better
Lucky you. I am pleased. Ron was so sick. I pray the rest goes well for you.
My wife Sarah Duncan did not have any effects after treatment one, except tiredness.
She was told though it tends to be cumulative
My husband went thru 16 chem treatments and 33 radiations, going through the treatments he did pretty good. After the last radiation it was like a ton of bricks hit him. He was so sick, esophagitis and could not eat. Not sleeping. He is slowly healing and getting better.
No side effects for me, been doing it for 1-1/2.
No side effects, except weight gain
I don't have much of an appetite at all but no sickness
I had a lobectomy on Oct 5th and have lost 15 lbs since
I had one too 11/12/2013 and gained 30 pounds since. I attribute it to my lack of physical exercise since, I have a difficult time getting around. I should also mention I had a total knee replacement in 2015
Aww bless your heart I believe exercise is key in our positions.. I've been pretty laid back myself
I hate the weight gain!!!!
It really depends on which chemo meds you are on, some are much easier to tolerate. Plus, Chemo has a cumulative effect and the side effects may not start right away and also can get worse over time. Hopefully, you'll continued to feel well. When I was on Chemo, the side effects did not hit until the 3rd or 4th day after chemo and then lasted a few days... Then I'd slowly feel better --
Day 4.. Still not much. Im even cleaning my whole house today
Lucky lady....
For some. Great for you
Days 3-6 were hardest for me (carboplatin/alimta)... And unfortunately the fatigue & muscle weakness got worse with each one but you will get through it!!
jill, those are the same drugs I’m currently on. And yes the fatigue muscle weakness are terrible.
Marti Sharpe hang in there!! You've got this!!
Jill Massey, absolutely!
