Hello all!! I’ve been trying new supplements like fish oil, turmeric, msm, B12, multivitamins along with a protein shake with coconut milk and my body is not swollen anymore. I follow strictly the AIP diet , (no sugar, grains, meat, processed foods) and my pain levels are mild so I can continue working full time and still handling house chores. My main problem is that I’m losing so much weight that worries me now because none of my clothes fit me and everytime I look at myself in the mirror I get depressed.. How can I gain some weight? I try to cheat sometimes and eat meat and I don’t notice it hurts me but I’m scare to introduce it again and get my body swollen.. Please give advise because I don’t want to lose anymore weight
I have struggled with this as well. I was already a petite person. I started out AIP but then moved to a Whole Foods Plant Based diet with the exception of fish because I could tell it didn’t cause me pain. My pain was still substantial so I finally cut out grains, seeds, nuts, legumes. I’m finally noticing my inflammation diminish. My issue in all of this has been my weight loss/muscle wasting. I can’t stand to lose anymore either. A week ago I started using the app Cronometer to set weight gain goals and to monitor my nutrient and calorie intake. So far I think it’s helping.
Also do you eat nuts/seeds? I know they’re not part of the AIP diet, but maybe it’s time to try reintroducing some of them if you’re afraid of meat?
Muscle wastage has affected me too. I have an ultra sound next month to my thigh as I have developed a hole since I started the diet 5 months ago
If you follow the AIP, then you can and should eat quality meat and organ meat. You can also eat more starchy foods like sweet potatoes and more fats like avocados. I’m glad it’s helping you feel better.
Avocados and sweet potatoes are a must in my diet I guess I have to introduce slowly organic meat
I also ate sweet potato and cassava chips, that helped me gain weight.
and yes, sweet potatoes and avocados are staples in my diet.
I started the same diet plan as you in March and I’ve lost 15lbs since then. Not good as I wasn’t overweight before. I also had immediate relief from pain and it was a total game changer, I was high on life for last 5 months and thought I’d found the answer. I’ve been flaring for the past week and I haven’t changed my diet or supplement routine. I feel so deflated as the sacrifice of not eating the foods I love, and the weight loss seemed worth it for no pain but now, not so much
Sometimes I get flares like that but I notice it’s because I overwork my body a little too much.. Then I try fasting and it works to relieve some pain
How long have you been AIP? I found it took about a year for body to adjust, and me to get used to eating so much more bulk (so many cups of veg a day!!!). I lost a lot of weight the first year, but I have now been on AIP for 2.5 years (with many reintroductions now) and I can now easily keep on the weight. I found a good compliant way to increase calories was to roast a lot of my veggies in lots coconut oil, sauté greens in oils, make compliant salad dressings and use a lot on salads. I also made sure to start the day with a good dose of fat—bacon, avocado and sautéed spinach was a common breakfast.
I’ve been on the diet since March , ( a little more than 3 months ) and I sautéed my veggies, I add bacon once in a while but I haven’t tried the coconut oil yet.. I kinda want to introduce it in my protein shake in the morning to see how impact my body. I also want to try cashew butter but I’m a little scared.. My muscles are kind of gone but I try to stay active as much as posible doing normal activities like lifting small things at work, home or groceries.. I’m pretty sure I don’t want any meds but being skinny makes me doubtful
I don’t think you have to add meat into your diet to be healthy, considering how diseased our animals are nowadays. Eat more natural fats like nuts and nut butters, avocados, etc. Your reduction in pain is an inspiration to me!
I’m Vegetarian anyway, and have been for years
I’m confused AIP is a lot of meat
That confuses me in itself because meat is the biggest inflammatory of all! Although i think AIP allows grass fed cows as far as I’m aware. I don’t eat meat anyway, so I’m following the diet as a vegetarian.
What I’ve been doing is finding my triggers and meat is one of them when I do it everyday. I can do it once in a while as long as it’s organic
Are you having plant protein and enough nutrients and calories in your meals?
I need to increase my calories but don’t know how
My protein is whey protein based from the Wow company .
I don’t know how else to increase it
Hope things get better for you... What kind of protein shake we're u drinking?
Thank u will give it a try ...
Google how to not loose weight on AIP. I had looked it up one because my husband was doing it with me for a short time (he couldn’t afford that) he lost 20lbs. I on the other hand lost two. The only thing I remember was to increase starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes.
Ok I will thanks
Doing same thing and struggling and i mean struggling! Not to gain! I can't lose weight! And eat less and healthier then ever have before... İt adds a whole nother dimension of depair to Having this hateful disease but I understand your situation is just as hard. Best wishes
I went for an Indian last night and had gluten nan bread and creamy sauce. It was delicious. Up all night in agony! Body completely blocked, had to have a steroid injection this morning. Was it worth it? Kinda...
Shirley Herndon hope your pain goes away quickly.. Sometimes cheating comes with a high price but it’s delicious at the moment
