I have Acid reflux and I wanting to go to the cheap route of treating it which I know to be drinking baking soda and water mixed together. Apple Cider Vinegar makes my chest burn and I did dilute it. Does anybody know how much of Baking Soda and Water I will need and how often can I do it a day? Is it bad for me if I constantly drink it?
1/2 teaspoon in 8-12 ounces of water. Make sure your taking a probiotic
Why do I need to make sure that I am taking a probiotic?
It balances the gut bugs.
What does that have to do with acid reflux?
Christina Mcdermott https://www.livestrong.com/article/531210-the-best-probiotic-for-gerd/
Christina Mcdermott taking the baking soda will also take out the good bacteria in your belly so you need a probiotic
I use 1 tsp in 8-12 ounce water daily
Does it help u through out the whole day?
Christina Mcdermott I try and drink it once daily not just for acid reflux specifically but for other health benefits as well. My uncle was diagnosed with cancer and given 6 months to live he started drinking baking soda water daily and the cancer is gone. This was 6 years ago. Baking soda water is good for TONS of different health issues so me and my family try to drink it daily it helps and normalizes the ph balance in your body. But as far as acid reflux when I feel that coming on I drink some and it definitely helps.
Amanda Kane I’m sorry to hear that about your uncle and that’s awesome:) I know that baking soda is alkalizing. I read online that baking soda is not good to take all of the time. If your taking it after u get acid reflux then there is damage that is already being done to your esophagus before you drink the baking soda to relieve the acid reflux
Yes, it is bad for you to over drink this. This is a natural bandaid due to alkalizing effects. If you want permanent results, opt off the temporary fix of sodium benzoate and acv and shoot for natural mineral salts... Juice organic celery every morning.
What do u mean shoot for natural mineral salts?
Foodm celery, cucumber, watermelon, pears..
Baking soda is not the remedy. Most, if not all heartburn is due to lack of acid, not too much. Take digestive enzymes, HCL Betaine, and probiotics.
You’re right. Baking soda is going to make this problem worse. Betaine HCL has helped me tremendously.
Bev Alvarado yup. Me too. People don’t know. Heck Gastroenterologists don’t know. They are happy to put you on acid suppressors for life. (Which shortens your life because it leaves you open to all types of pathogens and disease.) we need acid to digest foods and kill pathogens. Heartburn is your undigested food fermenting in your gut.
Maureen Tipton True!
Yes, good book. Why Stomach Acid Is Good For You by Dr Jonathan Wright
Yes, I take one am and one pm.
Papaya pills helped me!!
Papaya, every day will do wonders, Turmeric, Lime, Lemon, Pineapple.
Eat all of that all together or can I do each one separately?
only half a teaspoon of baking soda a day. One teaspoon of vinegar mix in cup water.
I had been taking 1 teaspoon a day. Had a situation where I started spitting up brown stuff that looked like coffee grounds. I guess I had been taking to much baking soda. This was a reaction so now I am afraid of it.
Cathy Mcqueen oh wow I’m sorry to hear that!!! Do I do the vinegar and the baking soda or can U just do them separately?
What foods can cause acid reflux? Food and drinks that commonly trigger heartburn include: •alcohol, particularly red wine. •black pepper, garlic, raw onions, and other spicy foods. •chocolate. •citrus fruits and products, such as lemons, oranges and orange juice. •coffee and caffeinated drinks, including tea and soda. •peppermint. •tomatoes.
What has been wonderful for me- digestive enzymes & slippery elm bark.
Somebody told me that digestive enzymes is not good to take bc it could make my Pancreas quit working.
Christina Mcdermott If you are over 45, your stomach will not produce as many digestive enzymes. Most digestive enzymes help with digesting meat proteins and dairy. Personally, I would try and research what you were told. If it was a doctor trying to get you on proton pump inhibitors- that would explain it. There are foods (fruits) which help break down meat tissues (marinades) Kiwi fruit and pineapple.
I apologize. I guess I’m not comprehending what u are saying
I recommend healing your gut as a first step. I prefer to use lemon, lime, or cucumber in your water rather than baking soda to alkalize it. Also, if you sleep on your side, try sleeping on only your left side. When you sleep on your right side, your stomach is positioned to 'pour' into your esophagus.
The left side is the only side that I sleep on. I went to a naturopath a while back and he told me that I must be on some good strong probiotics bc my gut was just fine
I had never heard to sleep on left side till a few wks ago. I was having an issue with hb one nite was switching to my right side and I could feel the burn and reflux coming full force so I went to left side then to back elevated of course. So yes it makes difference.
Tami Medrano Great to hear!
Make Sure You are Properly HYDRATED.
How does that help with acid reflux?
The timing of the hydration is key... Drink a full glass of water before meals, drinking liquids during meals raises acidity.
My naturopath told me to drink 30 minutes before or after meals basically. As long as it’s 30 minutes away
Christina Mcdermott If You aren't Drinking Water then Your Body is digesting With stomach Acid. If You Rehydrate... Im Sure it will Get Better. Most people's ailments root cause is in Part Severe Dehydration. I just Helped My Mom with her acid reflux!!Nobody EVER Found Out until I Did ask... If She was Drinking WATER. She WASNT!!!Increase Your WATER INTAKE and You Will See!!!
Make SURE YOU are HYDRATED! Drink the Proper Amount of WATER Daily! Most are Dehydrated causing excess Acid because Your Stomach has No Water to Aid in Digestion.
Alkaline water works for me PH has to be over 9
Thanks for telling me that:) How much and how often do u drink it?
Another option is try looking at Great Taste, No Pain- which is food combining. It is basically not combining proteins and starches in the same meal or within three hours of each other. It is an old theory behind it. Meats and high protein foods need high acid to break down. Starches need a lot less acid to be broken down and digested. The theory is that if you have meals which combine both starches and high proteins in the same meal- you put your digestive system at war and that is how we get reflux and bowel issues. The folks behind it are real marketers though. (so just be aware )
Thanks for telling me that:)
I heardv this too but was told to eat proteins first.
I SOMETIMES TAKE A LITTLE TINY BIT OF MYLANTA, TINY TINY BIT ABOUT 15 TO 30 MIN BEFORE I TAKE THE APPLE CIDER VINIGER. YOU MIGHT WANT TO ALSO ASK YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU ALSO TAKE OTHER MEDICATION'S.
Stop: Sugar, bread, milk products, pasta.
No can do! Sugar is easy for me but cheese, bread and pasta in moderation is how have to be.
