Does anyone know how long it takes for the Fentanyl patch to work? My husband was on Morphine, but it was not covering his pain, so his oncologist put him on the patch, which he started this morning. At first, his pain was lessened, but now, he says he wants to go back on Morphine.
I think 8-12 hours to fully work.
When my husband was on them they didn't do anything for his pain at all.
I used to think the same thing on the fentanyl patch what milligram is he on? And it does take awhile for it to get in your system to start working properly. And if the morphine is not working for him there is also also Oxycontin which I believe works better than the Morphine Morphine did not work for me at all it did not block no pain and it I had bad reactions to Morphine so I could not take the morphine not a fat and all I didn't think it worked at First either but then eventually it did because I quit taking it and noticing more pain so started back on it and didn't notice that it does help with the pain you just it's so slow released you don't realize it's actually working but the main thing is the milligrams please let me know how many milligrams he's probably not getting enough milligrams. Now I am blind are you speech to text software so it don't always text things quite properly and sometimes it'll just put things that I have not even said and I apologize for that so I hope you was able to understand everything I was saying
I was on the patches for about 2 months & I found the same the fentanyl wasn't doing its job.. I was also on direct morfein injections for the pain.. I'm now on jurnista ( hydromorphone) & pregabalin (lyrica). Now don't get me wrong I still do have pain but the severity isn't so bad n is currently manageable. I did have both chemo & rad daily for 6 weeks which did halve the tumours size. Now as a maintenance treatment I'm on opdivo every 2 weeks n so far it has stopped it growing & is holding stable ATM n I have had no nil effects except more fatigue ... I hope this helps & your husband can get some relief as there's nothing worse then being in pain coz it just makes u feel more like crap.. Anyways take care, stay safe n hopefully all goes well for both of you .
Also if you are reasonably thin they often don't work as the absorption rate is too low for it to work effectively
& tbh give it a few days to actually take effect properly just take his breakthrough meds as he needs them ..
My husband was on oxycontin for years. He still had pain. Morphine never touched his pain at all. At the end they put on p.m. with dialauded. Started at 2 mg an hour, then 2 dialauded every 10 minutes that he hit the button. He went up to 4 an hour, 4 every 10 min. Then I demanded they gave me the morphine drops for him. It took a lot before he didn't complain about pain. All meds work different on everyone. Just got to find the right mixture
I am on dilaudid and the patch.
