Put a bar of soap under the sheets. Sounds weird but it works.
Add some magnesium to your diet.
Magnesium chelated form or glycinate for this may help
Just wanted to add, if a leg cramp is extreme and is hot to touch, let doctor know, could be a possible blood clot.
Also drink plenty of water.
Yes, in the calves, but the worst for me is my toes cramp into weird positions and I can't straighten them until it is over.
Mine do that too! Very painful!
The toe, ankle and shin cramps are the worse and nothing works but to get up and walk.
Exactly the same for me. I have to get out of bed and walk it off.
Shin cramps are the most painful. It started there and in my ankle last night, caused the calf to start up and then moved up the back of my thigh. Finally things settled down, but then my other leg decided to join the party. I am so sore today.
Anne Betts I found that Icy Hot works well to help these cramps especially the shin cramps.
Mary Spencer I'm getting some today!
When my Vit D is low I get them. So we take D and no leg cramps
You might need water
Yes, when I am not taking a magnesium supplement.
Yes day time too
Yes, although pickle juice does relieve it.
yes! And restless/almost itchy legs while sitting on the couch
Vitamin D may help
I take 25 mg of iron every other day to keep restless legs away. It also helps with leg cramps. I also use Hylands Leg Cramp Ointment - works really well.
Yes, more so if I don’t drink a lot of water
Eat more bananas....
Avocado, sweet potatoes and spinach are also high in potassium. I don’t care for bananas so I eat avocados almost daily.
My feet cramp when I don’t take my magnesium
Yes I was given magnesium But ended up having to find a liquid version it works magically
I used to. Magnesium has does wonders for them
Yes. Multiples to the point I was afraid to sleep. I take a magnesium tablet and Comprehensive B tablet daily, also. Rub Vicks vapours into my calves and feet and wear socks. I kick the socks off eventually but it makes a big difference. I have RA in my ankles, feet and now knees and hips. I'm about to get orthotics because the feet and ankle RA impact the biomechanics of the leg. I've started getting massages once a week from a student massage clinic once a week and that's making a big difference to the RA all around. It costs $80 a fortnite and may be too expensive or not available for some. I'm only doing it because I've been in a flare due to some family stress. I also, before I discovered these strategies, taught myself to breathe deeply and calmly through the pain as the panicking used to tense my calf muscles up and keep the cramping going. I also make sure I'm. Well hydrated generally and at night.
I just posted this. I never used to have issues with leg cramps till this past week. I just received some topical magnesium spray, I will post my results. Best of luck to you.
don't take too much of any vitamins as it can be dangerous to health. Always check what is a SAFE amount to take.
Yes. It’s best to get your vitamins naturally, through your diet. Some things build up in your system and others pass through quickly. Always do your own research. Ty for this comment.
Cicely Godfrey yes it worries me when i read a lot of the items on here as people are looking for relief and it is so easy to just start taking stuff in hope of feeling better. We all have to be fully informed, and not rush into things.
