My husband doesn't eat much either. But he does drink either the Premier Protein Shakes or the SlimFast Protein. But have very little sugar. Hope that helps.

danielle I tried the banana cream flavor she would not drink it and this afternoon I will try the chocolate

You could try saltine crackers, or any kind of plain crackers. Soups or like chicken broth, apples, and water for the nausea and to just eat. My mom rubbed ice on her lips and put it in her mouth for the dryness before.

austina .... Great suggestions I will try these! What do u think about rice a roni? Should I try this

I lived on homemade chicen and rice soup. Put it in a small bowl and use small plates, so it won't overwhelm her. Room temp Ginger Ale too. What nausea meds does she have?

Melanie Wynn
M

Ondansetron hcl 8 mg tablet

Kristi Donahue 3 years

That's the same dosage of Zofran that I was on, but also 25mg Phenegran. Call her Doc and tell them to prescribe her the Phenegran!

Melanie Wynn 3 years

Zofran doesn't always help.

Melanie Wynn 3 years

As far as anti nausea meds the only one that worked for me was Ativan. As far as food I lived on crackers soup and pizza. I don't know why but during my chemo I craved pizza. As far as hydration even water made me nauseous so I drank a lot of juice or lemonade

Water has made her gaggy tried kook aid she has managed to keep Powerade down but she doesn't like carbonated drinks so what do u think about a ginger cookie or a pound cake made with ginger?

Kristi Donahue 3 years

you could try making her some ginger tea, hot or cold. And you could put a little fresh mint in it. If she needs it sweeten I would use honey not sugar.

Delisa Mata 3 years

ginger cookies are my Fav if you make some send them my way hehe. Also turmeric (the spice) makes really great tea and it's a really good for inflammation.

Delisa Mata 3 years

I have been to sneaking turmeric in her soup she hasn't noticed also parsley is good helps with gas exchange in lungs 2Tblsps

Kristi Donahue 3 years

Kristi Donahue be careful with the turmeric! Speak to her doctor before using as mine told me I could not use that in conjunction with my chemo as it caused adverse side effects. The blander the food the better.

Donna Jimenez 3 years

Watermelon, cucumbers. I loved cottage cheese with grapes for some reason. Goat cheese and crackers. Ensure. Gatorade.

If she can't keep anything down you need to contact the hospital or wherever she had chemo to change the nausea medication. I was an idiot when I had chemo and found myself dehydrated and in on an Iv because I thought being sick was normal, no one should be sick during chemo so get other meds that will work for her

First, get some serious nausea meds (Zofran can be taken sublingual if she can't keep a pill down). Then be sure to control the constipation that nausea meds will cause. Then start with clear liquids, broths, etc. To get her started eating and take advantage of IV fluids to keep her hydrated! Good luck!

Chris Dempsey

She is taking the generic for zofran

Kristi Donahue 3 years

Kristi Donahue she's taking ondansetron? That is a great antinausea med. I hope you have gotten her some relief by now!

if you even think she is dehydrated, call your doctor (My oncologist offers fluids instead of going to the ER). The more dehydrated she gets, the worse it will be to treat and the harder it will be on her.

Christine Madrid

Yes we checked in with her oncologist and she is receiving IV hydration thanks for the heads up

Pediasure drinks and popsickles helped my brother, watch out for a fever, if she has one get her to the dr ASAP, sepsis is a very real risk while going through chemo

I didn't think of pediasure this might help TY

Zofran and Compazine did well for me.

Fresh fruits are still my "go to" foods. Fresh, not canned, in particular pineapple, cantaloupe, strawberries and grapes. Homemade vegetable beef soup and home chicken noodle soup. Canned Campbell's chicken and noodle soup in a pinch. Vanilla boost on those days when nothing works. I never had much luck with the anti-nausea pills. Just keep trying different things and don't be surprised if she wants the same stuff over and over again. She will find something that still hits the spot. I found too that spicy foods tasted better to me, oh, and barbecued anything! Mom was so sneaky too ... She would cut up a plate of finger foods, like apples, crackers and cheese, and just come sit and chat, before I'd know it, we would have wiped out the whole plate. Oh my! Don't forget Magic Mouthwash. Gargle and swallow prescription, right before you eat. Helps with the swallowing and the stomach issues. Hugs and prayers to both of you!

Thank you so much for the input and advice all are great and I will use them very good suggestions

Kristi Donahue 3 years

ask about the patch. Scopolamine. They use it mostly for cruise ship passengers now, but my infusion nurse suggested I ask my oncologist about it because zofran wasn't working. It worked perfectly. I stick it behind my ear and put a new one on three days later on the other side.

Annie Spears

This is a great suggestion because the zofran is not working at all I will ask oncologist about this

Kristi Donahue 3 years

She may need to get an iv treatment to prevent dehydration. Instant breakfast is helpful so is protein drinks there always ensure and boost but instant breakfast is less expensive has the same nutrients. Good luck. Sending prayers
