Has anyone had experience with viral arthritis?
This may be long I was diagnosed with seronegative RA few weeks ago but before that I tested positive for Epstein Barr virus being reactivated in my system and had all the symptoms of it along with joint pain and swelling I knew ebv was causing this and it’s not really RA per say but now my husband is having the same symptoms!! Pain in some joints swelling numbing nerve pain everything I’m going through so obviously there’s no way we both got RA same time. Someone in one of my ebv groups pointed out how there are many strains of ebv and the one I have must be specific to causing these symptoms. It’s just nuts I even had an mri and my hand shows some erosion in 2 fingers. I am so scared he’s getting this bc he has to work and can’t take time off and how bad I am I would never be able to work now. I’m just trying to figure this all out and what he should start taking. I started researching viral arthritis and says can last 6 months well I’m going on 5 months. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you
Most people are positive to ebv. I am as I have high titers and was just checked again 2 days ago. My RA came out of nowhere so I'm wondering too if the ebv triggered it. What were your titer numbers?
Yes most of the population has been exposed to ebv initially I originally had mono as a kid but in some people it can get reactivated esp if your immune system is down and that’s the issue. Mine showed recent reactivation. My titers are high.
Mine too. Mine must be reactivated too. Three of the 4 titers were high. Are you on meds yet?
Yes when the 3 out of 4 are high that means recent reactivation. There are no meds for ebv it’s a virus. I’m taking antivirals and a bunch of other stuff to help with the arthritis also
What antiviral are you taking?
I've never heard of viral arthritis? Is it permanent? What r titters?
I didn’t hear of it either until recently google it there’s tons of info lol but pretty sure that’s what’s happening to me. Titers are the blood test result how high she talking about the virus numbers
I’m really hoping it’s not permanent
This author Anthony William has a book out about this issue. He believes that the EBV is the root of a lot of the autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis and gives a natural plan in his book to heal from EBV and autoimmune diseases. https://www.amazon.com/Medical-Medium-Secrets-Chronic-Mystery/dp/1401948294
Yes thank you I have his book

Are you taking Monolaurin yet?
Yes I’m taking that and other antivirals and many other supplements.
Where do you get monolaurin?
I was diagnosed with viral arthritis caused by EBV in March. I was given Plaquenil and told 6 months to a year before it goes away. I am in the process of seeking out a new rheumy and primary care (for many reasons). I have no idea where I got the EBV and my husband either never had it, or it was so mild we didn’t know about it.
Wow how did they come to this conclusion it was caused from ebv? I just know this is what’s happening to me to.
I think it's what is happening to me too. The rheumatologist never said that though. My primary care saud that ebv can cause all kinds of problems. Told me to eat healthy and rest to calm it down. I wonder if the RA will ever resolve?
Amy Bruno I think it will are you taking any natural antivirals? Diet effects me sooo much to
No I'm not. I'm just learning about this. I was diagnosed with RA almost a year ago and recently started on meds. I'm wondering if I can take the antivirals in conjunction with the meds?
Amy Bruno yes they are natural. I’m taking a low dose of prednisone bc my pain is BAD and swelling
How is viral ra diagnosed?
I’m assuming the RA symptoms start around the same time ebv is reactivated
I don't have ebv but i have ra.
Have you been tested? It would actually be strange to not have the anti bodies, most everyone does. It's just a matter of whether it is active or not.
Yes, tested.
That's awesome. All this autoimmune stuff is terrible.
Just to add I do have elevated CRP was about a 13 last time tested and esr rate elevated and high white blood cell count. Besides that all RA factor negative Ana negative and CCP Okay. Also my rheumatologist was not even for sure what was going on she tested me for so many things but decided on the seronegative Ra bc the Mri is showing inflammation and some erosion to 2 joints. She is letting me take time to explore the ebv further she was intrigued by it how I told her many people have joint issues with ebv and wants me to find a doctor that specializes in it so she is def open to this could be causing it. I also have very swollen knees and feet and hands aren’t to bad now. I think need to get in drained.
I do have a positive CCP but my inflammation markers are near zero. That was only flagged lab. MRI showed marrow edema in my foot so those two things got me an RA diagnosis. I hate it. Has consumed my life!
When I was first diagnosed it came after a horrific strep throat. One of my best friends who I went to college with at the time was also diagnosed around two months later. I always wondered if it was a virus we both caught that activated the RA.
