What do you guys think about this milk as a substitute for breastmilk? I'm trying to wean my 17 month old. It says carrageenan free
I like that brand.
Soy free is good. Do they add sugar?
It says original and the other one says unsweetened
How many grams of sugar in it?
Seems like not a lot to me
Not bad! I would use that.
I heard goat milk is the best... İs the most similar to human.
That's what I used from 3 months on.. Next best thing from breast for sure!
Actually donkeys and horses have the closest but it's hard to get the milk from them because the foal needs to be near the teat or on the teat. But I second goats milk. I have been giving my now 13 month old since 6 months because I couldn't breast feed.
Id love to get my hands on goat milk but I don't have a lot time to find a farm to get it from around here
You can buy the powder from whole foods.
Walmart has some. But it's not all organic but way better than cows milk
I like this brand. Better than Silk or Dlue Diamond Almond Breeze.
Do you happen to know if our whole foods carry goat milk? I'm trying to wean my 1.5year old. I don't want to do soy, so it's between almond, coconut or goat.
I know they have yogurt from goats milk at the Kailua one.. Not sure about milk wise.. You could call them though.
I go there constantly but don't do animal milks so I don't pay attention to that part of the fridge much. ): I'm sorry.
I just called and they do! So yay! Between almond and coconut, which would you prefer?
I like almond milk better as far as drinking by itself and cooking. For mixing in my coffee/drinks and certain other things I like coconut milk (sometimes the coconut flavor can be a bit too strong depending on brand). Whole Foods has a great policy You can buy it and if you don't like it they let you return itd: I've done it so often when trying new things and foods. They're amazing.
I used it on my youngest. He seems pretty healthy and he still likes it.
Coconut milk? Hemp milk? That's what someone had recommended for me.
I'm going to get that kind next time. Probably the unsweetened one.
Thanks ladies I'm going to try it and see if she even drinks it lol if not I will
We do goat milk and coconut milk. Good luck!
Love them. Even the vanilla only has like 3g of sugar which is awesome and so low
Are you trying to wean her from breast milk completely or just from breast feeding? Because pumping and freezing is a great option
Becca I'm trying to wean her off completely. I tried to pump and it was too much work so I have special permission at work everyday to take a long lunch to drive home and feed her. It's been over a year with this routine and I'm done
Cashew milk is soooo good and smooth your lil one will love it.
Love this brand. And the "so delicious " brand
goat milk n nettles
If you could make your own almond milk, is really easy.
5 grams of sugar is A LOT of sugar. For a 2 year old that is their daily MAX. Find an organic unsweetened brand. Or at least buy the unsweetened.
They do have an unsweetened option. I will try that one next time
We love the unsweetened vanilla one. İts great, we aren't into drinking it but its great for cereals,
I give my 15 month old almond milk sometimes. He still nurses but I'll give him almond milk in a sippy cup
I use this brand, but I think I'm going to start making my own.... İt's actually not that hard!
I need to look into making it, I hear from a lot of people it's easy to make and if it's easy I need the recipe
http://wellnessmama.com/366/organic-almond-milk-recipe/ Water. Almonds. Cheese cloth or nut milk bag to strain. Here is a recipe.
Saved and saved!!! You ladies are awesome! Thanks
Yes making your own is the best route!
I add VitD drops, coconut oil & calcium to our almond milk for LO when I need a Lil break.
I know how difficult finding time can be with a young child and work. I love sugar free almond milk off the shelf.
Are you still nursing at night?
Yes every night to put her to sleep, every morning and during the day twice
I'd recommend to make your own almond milk
If you look at nature, once the child is weaned they no longer take milk, they drink water. Just a thought.
Not true - many traditional cultures use milk well into adulthood. Isrealites described "milk and honey" as their promised land, Masai warriors mainly live on their cow milk in the African dessert, LOTS of European cultures have used dairy for millenia... You should read "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" by Dr. Weston Price - almost all the cultures he goes to uses milk for health.
^^WAPF for the win! Really though... High quality raw dairy is the best. I would never give my child almond milk that I didnt make myself- way too much pesticides and issues with almonds
Those cultures would probably struggle to find fresh clean drinking water through just a thought our children do not drink milk other than mine as all still breastfeed and I only use raw goats milk for recipes and cooking but that's not for health it's for flavour lol
rebecca Did they do it out of necessity was my point. And I was referring to non-human mammals just to clarify.
I don't think using nonhuman mammals is a fair argument. Non human mammals don't cook food, drive cars, use math/art, etc. We know that mammalian milk has benefits, whether it be of necessity or not, so why not use it to our advantage, especially if the animal is well raised?
My sister and I have always made ours. But I got the one you have above, the same brand anyways, but it was in sweet vanilla and I'm freaking in love. Haha
I love this brand. Unsweetened tastes better too I think.
Breastmilk has fat, carbs, and protein - almond milk is mainly just carbs and a little fat. Almonds also have high amounts of phytic acid. We do whole cow's milk, organic (raw is best), and my son has thrived on it. If you are substituting something for breastmilk, you need something that is complete - protein, fats, and carbs.
Goat milk is best
Or camels milk if you have that kind of money
There are none.
Raw goats milk is my second choice, breastmilk first
I'd try something that's a certified organic product. So you know for a fact you're not giving baby any chemicals and/or gmos... I did raw coconut milk with my children and they loved it. With my first born who was preemie, I did goats milk ...
We used coconut milk. Almond is fine -- good brand
Omg I LOVE this brand it is so hard to find near me. Idk if I would use it for a sub to breast milk but I do use it for the whole family
I think coconut milk has a lot less phytic acid (which steals nutrients from teeth/bones.) I buy Silk brand.
Its not organic which means its loaded with chemicals. Nuts are really something that you want to get organic.
Keep allergies in mind
no! Babies don't need milk after weened!
Organic hemp milk
I would look into raw goats milk or raw cows milk from local farm... I don't trust labels... Sorry!
Hemp milk all the way!!
