Is she using any chronic medication? Might be the problem. Speak to a pharmasist and tell them what she use. They might offer an alternative cough medication.

cut up a onion . add three teaspoon sugar. n warm it in the microwave till it forma a syrup

4 tsp lemon juice 8 tsp honey

Cinamon powder 1spoon wid 1spoon of honey.. Mix it and give it 3times a day ... Hope this works...
