Any natural suggestions for a 5 yr old with ADHD. We have been reading and know of course removing sugar. Anything else that anyone has success with? TIA
My son has ADHD, this is what I did when he was 6: Our family did an elimination diet, I discovered he reacted to red and blue dye, and chicken, whole milk, and soda. When I eliminated these completely from his diet, he was able to function much better, sleep 6 hrs per night (only 4hrs. Before) and interact with us on a better level. I started giving him coffee to drink, 3 times a day (about 1/4 cup). I also created a strict environment at home, redirecting him to whatever he was suppose to do, and punishments were sitting on the stairs for a few minutes. He is now 30yrs old and doing well, full time job, bought a house, has a dog too.
You know I know it's not possible for everybody and it's very hard to even consider it but I have decided to home-school all 5 of my children I want them to be children not stuck in class all day ADHD is basically giving kids bunch of sugar and carbs and then tell him to sit still for 8 hours
I homeschool too.. But my son (6) definitely has adhd regardless of his healthy/low glycemic diet. Which is part of why we are leaning towards more of an unscooling approach. Adhd is not necessarily a bad thing though.. İt means that he will hyper focus on whatever he is interested in so is pretty advanced in his knowledge about certain things that he has been very eager to learn about (like the circulatory system). He had absolutely zero interest in learning how to read and write until a month ago.. And all of a sudden he started hyperfocusing and really getting it and it's fun for him now to work on it together.. But any time I tried before he'd be off in lala land daydreaming about transformers and asking if we were done yet every 20 seconds.
Jess Strickland my son is 10 and also has ADHD. And we limit sugar intake as well. What i meant by that is some of it is just kids being kids and its not natural for kids to sit still all day 5 days a week especially after they're giving sugar cereal, sugar glaze Donuts, apple juice, and milk with sugar added before sending them on their way to sit still in a small little confined desk all day long not allowed to talk or think for themselves it's sad but I do believe in ADHD I have two with it but my 10 year old he drives me crazy so I'm sure he tries his teachers crazy matter fact his teachers bully him because I won't medicate him and he's just like your son when he's excited about something he goes full force with it everything else is hard to keep his Focus
This is why I'm dropping out of school and becoming a homeschooling parent that way I can control how long my children can sit and if they need to burn off energy they can
Sports is a very good one.. Find his hobby what peaks his interest the most and let him manifest in that every way possible ... To much energy is not a bad thing ever ... The trick is finding what to release that energy on
4 drops of Lugols iodine solution on a saltine cracker and gave it to my son one morning when he was in 5th grade. At 8:30 that night my wife got an email from his teacher thanking us for talking to him and that he was laser focused on her all day.
Can you share what supplement you can give to kids to help support kidneys and adrenal. I commented below that I am treating my daughter for Candida. I have her taking dandelion root to help her liver, but nothing for adrenals and kidneys. Thanks
I am treating my daughter for yeast because it is a cause of ADHD. We have also went gluten free and limiting sugar intake. I know she has yeast issues because her tongue has a white coating on it and she has skin issues etc. Maybe look into yeast. I am trying to balance her gut in general and also kill of yeast/bacteria. I believe your gut plays a key role in every illness.
Adhd is a deeply pathological nerve condition and as you can see there are many possible root causes. In case you don't find the cure... Remember it will not work to talk with or rationalize with/discipline them much as you likely know, so the nest thing to do is to just direct their energy into something positive! Have them help arpund the house, but make it fun! Find hobbies and activities and make it fun! Don't expect them to get a normal 9 to 5 as an adult. Praise their inconsistencies as long as they aren't hurting anyone. It's time we stop putting kids in a mold we create or drug their minds with poisons. Herbs that can help are lemon balm and chamomile. As you probably know this is not a disorder that can be cured in western medicine without turning them into a speed freak (meds) or zombie (if they get off meds). Embrace the wildness bc if not they will likely become self destructive as so many Adhd teens and adults are sadly.
My son was out of control I stopped processed foods baked his treats and no dyes they are in juices fruit snacks specifically red dye made a huge difference he has graduated from high school with 3.0 now every kid is different but it is worth a try
I treat my daughter that has ADHD, ODD, Anxiety, OCD, impulsive control disorder.... We use diet, supplements, homeopathic and essential oils.... Best decision I ever made .... She is thriving
All natural food, no processed foods and avoid all food dyes, especially yellow and red. You may also want to do research on CBD oil. Also structure and boundaries and lots of creative and play time built into the day.
Dyes, high fructose, msg, basically most processed foods we eliminated
Remove food dyes, processed or frozen foods. Limit electronics. Omega 3 vitamin.
I did just read something about Omega 3 and ADHD.
